Job summary

Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP in Reno seeks an Electronics Technician to maintain and optimize advanced electronic systems across our polymers operations. You will work with instrumentation and control platforms to support reliable plant performance.

In this role you will perform 24/7 monitoring of analyzers, document repairs in SAP, participate in FAT/SAT, and collaborate with electrical and instrumentation teams to minimize downtime and improve safety.

Qualifications

  • Electrical qualification required with industrial experience.
  • Level II NETA or higher certification preferred.
  • Experience with instrumentation, control valves and PLCs is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain process analyzers and detectors on a 24/7 basis.
  • Document repairs and parts in SAP.
  • Perform PMs on DCS/PLC systems and calibrate instruments.
  • Install/modify control system hardware and wiring.
  • Troubleshoot electrical equipment and faults.
  • Support instrument and electrical technicians and contractors.
  • Participate in FAT/SAT testing as required.
  • Adhere to health, safety and environmental practices.

The Electronics Technician position is integral to upholding the highest standards of operational efficiency, making a meaningful impact on both our commercial success and environmental stewardship. Responsibilities
  • Maintain process/environmental analyzers on a 24/7 basis
  • Maintain the hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide detectors
  • Use SAP to document repairs, purchase parts, confirm time and write notifications
  • Comply with federal, state and local procedures and regulations. Assist in developing procedures and policies to benefit the safety and productivity of the facility.
  • Participating in Process Hazard Reviews and PSSRs
  • Provides 24-hour analytical systems support of operating units during upsets as well as outages
  • Provides 24-hour on-call analytical systems support
  • Participate in FAT (factory acceptance test) and/or the SAT (site acceptance test) when required
  • Performs daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly PMs on the DCS and PLC systems to maintain the integrity of the system.
  • Installs hardware associated with upgrades or modifications of process control equipment
  • Assists in checking out of instrument control loops in existing plants or plant expansions and works with contractors to ensure proper installation
  • Performs maintenance service repair on control systems hardware
  • Provides technical assistance to instruments and electrical crafts with problems associated with conventional types of instrumentation
  • Performs repairs on electronic card modules, both analog and digital
  • Provides 24-hour Control Systems support of Operating Units during upsets as well as outages.
  • Provides 24-hour on call Control Systems support
Responsibilities Cont'd
  • Repair and calibrate flow, pressure, level, temperature and differential pressure transmitters;
  • Repair and tune various types of controllers associated with process instrumentation;
  • Install or remove both field and panel mounted equipment;
  • Pull, repair and calibrate pneumatic and DVC actuated control valves;
  • Install and set pressure, temperature, flow, level switches and monitoring devices and ensure that they operate properly;
  • Perform PMs on various process instruments; including dry additive feeders.
  • Comply with all health, safety and environmental practices and policies.
  • Remove and install electrical related equipment up to 138kV.
  • Installs electrical equipment (examples include but are not limited to conduit, wires, support, and related equipment)
  • Troubleshooting and repair electrical equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on 480/4160 volt motor starters, motors up to 8000 H.P., UPS systems/ batteries, A.C. and D.C. variable speed drive controllers and electrical motors.
  • Complete minor electrical project work.
Required Qualifications

Electrical

  • 3 years of medium-to-high voltage experience in an industrial or heavy commercial setting with one of the following:
  • Associate Degree in Electrical/Electronic Technology
  • Level II NETA or higher or equivalent certification
Preferred Qualifications
  • Instrumentation - Knowledge of how to use diagnostic and calibration equipment (e.g. TREX, meters, pumps)
  • Knowledge of how to troubleshoot and install control valves and coriolis meters.
  • Controls - knowledge of how to program and troubleshoot PLCs (e.g. Triconex, Allen Bradley, Modicon) and DCS (Honeywell, DeltaV, Yokogawa)
  • Analyzer - knowledge of the Siemens Gas Chromatographs, Yokogawa Gas, Sample Systems, Oxygen and Hydrocarbon detection systems
  • Electrical - Able to diagnose and locate circuit, component, and equipment faults
  • Experience with motor starter/switch gear troubleshooting for AC and DC systems
  • Knowledge of programming and troubleshooting VFDs.
