Job summary

Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. in Chandler, AZ seeks a Pipeline Technician to support safe, reliable operation of the nitrogen pipeline system and related plant assets. The role emphasizes pipeline operations, maintenance, and collaboration with the Plant Maintenance Supervisor and other teams.

The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude, a safety-first mindset, and the ability to work independently in a dynamic industrial environment, with on-call duties as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Trade/technical degree or apprenticeship in a related field encouraged.
  • Military service in a related field a plus but not required.
  • Detail oriented with willingness to document details appropriately.
  • Strong troubleshooting and fault isolation skills.
  • Strong personal safety philosophy.
  • Personal and professional integrity.
  • Must be team oriented and have a willingness to learn and further develop technical skills.
  • Must be willing to take on-call during nights, holidays, and weekends.
  • SAP experience is a plus but not required.
  • Clean driving record required (service truck provided).
  • This is a safety sensitive position.

Responsibilities

  • Carry company provided cell phone and respond to pipeline/plant call-outs during off-hours (nights, holidays, weekends).
  • Understand and use AZ811 call before dig system.
  • Use of Dig Tix software.
  • Locate underground utilities using standard locating equipment (a plus).
  • Read and understand P&ID's, pipeline alignment sheets, and wiring schematics.
  • Walk ~3 miles daily in rough terrain and extreme conditions.
  • Meet with contractors, designers, city reps to protect pipelines.
  • Review and respond to design requests and submittals.
  • Regular patrols of pipelines to insure normal operation.
  • Schedule and support pay meter calibrations and periodic maintenance.
  • Understand Cathodic Protection (preferred but not required).
  • Participate in pipeline/plant initiatives and training (travel may be required).
  • Maintain pipeline signage and field equipment per APCI PM system.
  • Participate in site safety program (BSP) and safety work permit systems.
  • Secondary duties include basic electrical troubleshooting and mechanical support.
  • Perform simple PM tasks.
  • On-call coverage may be required nights, weekends, holidays.

The Pipeline Technician is responsible for supporting the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the nitrogen pipeline system and related plant assets. This role focuses primarily on pipeline operations and maintenance activities as directed by the Plant Maintenance Supervisor or designee, while also providing support for broader plant maintenance and operational needs.

Responsibilities:
  • Willing to carry company provided cell phone and respond to pipeline/plant call-outs during off-hours (nights, holidays, and weekends) This is an on-call position for primary and secondary responsibilities.
  • Understanding and proper use of AZ811 call before dig system.
  • Use of "Dig Tix" software.
  • Experience in positive locating of underground utilities using locating equipment common to excavation industry is a plus.
  • Read and understand P&ID's, pipeline alignment sheets, and wiring schematics
  • Ability to walk an average of 3 miles a day in rough terrain in extreme conditions.
  • Meeting with contractors, designers, city representatives to protect the pipeline from damage/rupture.
  • Reviewing and responding to design requests and submittals
  • Regular patrols of pipelines to insure normal operation.
  • Scheduling and supporting pay meter calibrations and periodic preventative maintenance per standards
  • An understanding of Cathodic Protection for underground pipeline and maintenance activities is preferred but not a requirement
  • Participation in pipeline/plant initiatives.
  • Participation in pipeline training opportunities. (will require travel at times)
  • Maintaining pipeline signage and field equipment as needed and per APCI PM system for pipelines.
  • Participation in the sites safety program (BSP)
  • Familiar with Lock out, Tag out and safety work permit systems
  • Secondary responsibilities will be to support plant activities as the pipeline work demand allows. This includes, but is not limited to, basic electrical understanding and troubleshooting, mechanical support.
  • Perform simple PM tasks
  • Both responsibilities may require periodic night, weekend, and holiday coverage.
