Job summary

Hydrogen Group is seeking an Electronics Technician for an onsite Irvine, CA role. You will support electronics engineering, assembly, testing, and lab activities, including PCBA rework, wiring, and test equipment setup.

The role emphasizes troubleshooting, detailed documentation, and collaboration with engineering teams on prototypes and ECU modules. A technician degree and 3+ years of hands-on electronics experience are expected.

Qualifications

• Technology/Technician degree or equivalent technical experience.
• 3+ years of experience working as a technician in electronics or engineering laboratories.
• Hands-on experience with electronic assembly, soldering, PCBA rework, testing, and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

• Support electronics engineering, assembly, testing, and laboratory activities.
• Handle receiving and shipping of packages, materials, and equipment.
• Manage material inventories and kit parts used for assembly/rework.
• Perform PCBA modifications including soldering/desoldering and blue wire modifications per IPC-610 Class 3.
• Build wire harnesses per IPC/WHMA-A-620C.
• Create and setup custom test equipment from diagrams/specifications.
• Conduct functional testing of circuit assemblies and prototypes.
• Assemble ECU modules per diagrams/specifications.
• Maintain records of test results and update procedures as needed.
• Troubleshoot electrical/electronic failures to identify root causes.
• Support engineering teams with lab, prototype, testing, and rework activities.

IRVINE, CA | ONSITE

SCHEDULE: Standard Working Hours

DURATION: 6-Month Contract

PAY: 30-35 USD per hour

Job Responsibilities:

• In this role, you will support a variety of electronics engineering, assembly, testing, and laboratory activities. Key responsibilities include:
• Supporting the receiving and shipping of packages, materials, and equipment.
• Managing material inventories and kit parts used for assembly and/or rework activities.
• Performing PCBA modifications, including component rework, soldering/de-soldering of electronic components, and blue wire modifications in accordance with IPC-610 Class 3 standards.
• Building wire harnesses in accordance with IPC/WHMA-A-620C standards.
• Building and setting up custom test equipment based on engineering diagrams and specifications.
• Conducting functional testing of electronic circuit assemblies and engineering prototypes.
• Performing unit assembly of ECU modules according to engineering diagrams and specifications.
• Maintaining accurate records of test results and updating procedures as needed.
• Troubleshooting electronic assemblies and test failures to identify root causes.
• Supporting engineering teams with laboratory, prototype, testing, and rework activities.

Essential Duties and Job Functions:

• Perform component-level PCBA rework, including soldering and de-soldering of electronic components.
• Solder fine-pitch integrated circuits (ICs) and 0402 components with a high degree of accuracy.
• Perform blue wire modifications and other PCB modifications in accordance with applicable IPC standards.
• Assemble and modify wire harnesses in accordance with IPC/WHMA-A-620C requirements.
• Build, configure, and maintain custom electronic test equipment based on engineering drawings and specifications.
• Execute functional and electrical testing of circuit assemblies, prototypes, and ECU modules.
• Use laboratory test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, electronic loads (e-loads), and related instrumentation.
• Troubleshoot electrical and electronic failures and perform root-cause analysis.
• Assemble ECU modules and other electronic assemblies according to engineering specifications.
• Maintain accurate documentation, test records, and laboratory procedures.
• Manage materials, components, and kit parts required for assembly and rework activities.
• Follow applicable engineering, quality, safety, and workmanship standards.
• Support receiving and shipping activities for engineering materials and equipment.

Knowledge & Skills:

• Strong technical and hands‑on electronics skills.
• Excellent soldering and component rework skills.
• Excellent wire harness assembly and modification skills.
• Basic understanding of electrical and electronic principles.
• Ability to solder fine‑pitch ICs and 0402 components.
• Familiarity with laboratory and electronic test equipment, including multimeters, oscilloscopes, and electronic loads.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to identify root causes of electronic and electrical failures.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy when performing assembly, testing, and documentation activities.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering diagrams, drawings, and technical specifications.
• Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced engineering laboratory environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Project.
• Familiarity with Jira tools is a plus.
• Python scripting experience is a plus.
• Knowledge of IPC-610, IPC-620, IPC-7711, IPC-7721, or J-STD-001 standards is a plus.
• Ability to follow all company rules, safety requirements, and laboratory procedures.

Education & Experience:

• Technology/Technician degree or equivalent technical experience.
• 3+ years of experience working as a technician in electronics or engineering laboratories.
• Hands‑on experience with electronic assembly, soldering, PCBA rework, testing, and troubleshooting.
• Experience building and modifying wire harnesses.

• Electric vehicle (EV) experience is a plus.
• Experience working with ECU modules or automotive electronics is a plus.
