Qualifications

Electronics Lab Technician

LOCATION: Tustin, CA
DURATION: 9 months contract
PAY: 30-35 USD per hour

Job Responsibilities:

In this role, you will support reliability and manufacturing testing of automotive electrical hardware, including Level 3+ ADAS, telematics, infotainment, battery management systems, and zonal Electronic Control Units (ECUs). Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting hardware bring-up, reliability testing, and manufacturing testing activities.
  • Operating software interfaces and automated test equipment to exercise and validate electrical hardware.
  • Setting up, calibrating, and operating thermal and vibration chambers.
  • Troubleshooting test failures and determining whether issues are related to the device under test (DUT), test equipment, harnesses, or test setup.
  • Supporting the development, commissioning, and validation of automated test systems.
  • Reviewing and documenting test results, failures, and root-cause findings.
Essential Duties and Job Functions:
  • Operate software user interfaces to control test equipment during hardware bring-up and testing.
  • Validate system functionality using laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, power analyzers, power supplies, and digital multimeters.
  • Set up and operate thermal and vibration chambers for environmental testing.
  • Perform calibration and mechanical setup of chambers, chillers, fixtures, and associated test equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and root-cause failures involving DUTs, test equipment, electrical harnesses, and test fixtures.
  • Perform hands-on electrical testing and hardware validation.
  • Build and support automated test equipment (ATE) and industrial automation systems.
  • Support commissioning and validation of new test systems.
  • Perform circuit board modifications, including component rework, soldering, and de-soldering.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, drawings, and manufacturer datasheets.
  • Build first-article test systems and redline schematics as required.
  • Document test procedures, test results, equipment issues, and failure investigations.
  • Support reliability and manufacturing testing at internal facilities, external laboratories, and contract manufacturing facilities.
  • Understand and apply EVT, DVT, and PVT development processes and tester validation practices.
  • Perform basic calculations related to control and ramp rates to determine required test profile durations.
Knowledge & Skills:
  • Strong hands-on troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical and digital schematics.
  • Understanding of basic digital electronic components and circuit functions.
  • Experience operating laboratory test equipment, including oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and power analyzers.
  • Knowledge of thermal and vibration chamber operation and setup.
  • Experience with chambers, chillers, fixtures, and mechanical test set-ups.
  • Understanding of automated test equipment and industrial automation systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot DUT, test equipment, harness, and fixture failures.
  • Strong documentation and technical communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze test data and clearly communicate test results.
  • Understanding of hardware development cycles, including EVT, DVT, and PVT.
  • Knowledge of tester validation and test-system commissioning.
  • Ability to use power tools and perform mechanical assembly.
  • Experience with soldering, de-soldering, and circuit board rework.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively with engineering leads, technicians, vendors, and cross-functional teams.
  • Hands-on approach with the ability to proactively identify and resolve gaps in test setups.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft and Google productivity applications, including spreadsheets, word processing, and presentations.
Education & Experience:
  • Technical degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • 5+ years of experience building automated test equipment (ATE) or industrial automation systems.
  • Experience performing electrical testing using standard laboratory equipment.
  • Experience with thermal and/or vibration test chambers.
  • Experience with electrical schematics, drawings, and manufacturer datasheets.
  • Experience with soldering and circuit board rework.
  • Experience using power tools and performing mechanical assembly.
  • Experience supporting hardware bring-up, reliability testing, manufacturing testing, or test-system commissioning preferred.
  • Automotive electronics or ECU testing experience is a plus.
  • Experience working with ADAS, telematics, infotainment, battery management, or zonal ECU hardware is a plus.
