Fives Group is seeking a Electronics Lab Tech.
We are seeking a hands-on Electronics Lab Technician to support reliability and manufacturing testing of advanced automotive electrical hardware, including ADAS, telematics, infotainment, battery management, and zonal electronic control units (ECUs).
In this role, you will work closely with engineering teams to set up and operate test equipment, perform environmental and electrical testing, troubleshoot hardware and test systems, and document test results. This is a hands-on position that requires someone comfortable working with electronics, laboratory equipment, test fixtures, wiring, and mechanical setups.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate software interfaces and test equipment during hardware bring-up and validation.
- Set up, operate, and maintain thermal and vibration test chambers.
- Support calibration and mechanical setup of environmental chambers and associated equipment, including chillers and test fixtures.
- Perform electrical testing using laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power supplies, and power analyzers.
- Troubleshoot and identify root causes of failures involving devices under test (DUTs), test equipment, wiring, and harnesses.
- Build and modify test fixtures, harnesses, and other electromechanical test setups.
- Perform circuit board modifications, including soldering, desoldering, and component rework.
- Support commissioning and validation of new test systems.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, drawings, and component datasheets.
- Document test procedures, test results, failures, troubleshooting activities, and corrective actions.
- Assist engineering teams with reliability and manufacturing testing throughout the product development cycle.
- Support first-article builds, test fixture assembly, and schematic redlines as needed.
- Maintain organized lab equipment, tools, test setups, and documentation.
- Follow established safety, calibration, and testing procedures while proactively identifying opportunities to improve lab and test processes.
Qualifications
- Technical degree, certificate, or equivalent hands-on experience in electronics, electrical technology, engineering technology, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience with electronics testing, automated test equipment (ATE), industrial automation, or similar hands-on technical environments.
- Hands-on experience operating and setting up test equipment and laboratory instrumentation.
- Experience with thermal and/or vibration test chambers; experience with chillers is a plus.
- Ability to read and understand basic electrical and digital schematics.
- Experience troubleshooting electrical systems, wiring, harnesses, circuit boards, and test equipment.
- Experience with soldering, desoldering, and PCB/component rework.
- Comfortable using power tools and performing mechanical assembly of test fixtures and equipment.
- Understanding of basic electronics and digital components.
- Familiarity with product development and validation processes such as EVT, DVT, and PVT.
- Ability to understand basic test requirements, ramp rates, control parameters, and test profiles.
- Strong documentation and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google productivity applications.
- Ability to move and lift test boxes, fixtures, instrumentation, and other lab equipment.
