Electronics Engineer – Autonomous Vehicle Hardware
Location: Foster City, CA
Pay Rate: $71.10/hour
Contract: 6-12 months
We are seeking a hands-on Electronics Engineer to support the development, testing, and production transition of advanced vehicle electronics and prototype hardware.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working directly with PCBs, electronic assemblies, wire harnesses, test equipment, and prototype hardware. You will work closely with electrical engineers to build, bring up, troubleshoot, rework, and test electronics while helping maintain an organized and efficient electronics lab.
Key Responsibilities
- Build, assemble, bring up, modify, and rework multilayer PCBs and electronic assemblies
- Perform precision soldering and component-level rework, including work under a microscope
- Build, modify, repair, and inspect automotive-grade wire harnesses using connectors such as TE, Molex, and Deutsch
- Assemble and wire electrical control panels, test benches, industrial rack systems, and test hardware
- Inspect PCBAs, cable assemblies, and prototype hardware to identify and resolve assembly issues
- Perform functional verification and troubleshooting using DMMs, power supplies, electronic loads, and other laboratory equipment
- Read and work from electrical schematics, BOMs, and technical documentation
- Maintain and improve electronics lab equipment, tools, workspaces, and capabilities
- Manage electronic components, connectors, consumables, and inventory to support engineering activities
- Track prototype parts, test fixtures, and high-value equipment
- Support equipment lending/return processes and prototype shipments to external sites or vehicle teams
- Work closely with electrical engineers to support prototype development and transition toward production
- Travel within the Bay Area as needed for hands‑on electronics and hardware support
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of hands‑on experience with electronic product assembly or related electronics hardware
- Strong hands‑on experience with PCB assembly, soldering, and electronic rework
- Experience with prototype electronics and functional verification/testing
- Excellent soldering and rework skills, including the ability to work under a microscope
- Familiarity with DMMs, power supplies, electronic loads, and other basic electronics lab equipment
- Ability to read electrical schematics and BOMs
- Experience using mechanical hand tools common to electronic assemblies
- Some mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
- Strong documentation and technical writing skills
- Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to hands‑on work
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment with changing priorities
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience troubleshooting electrical systems
- Experience with safety‑critical electronics
- Automotive, aerospace, aircraft, defense, or space hardware experience
- PCB design experience using Altium Designer or KiCad
- CAD experience with Altium or SolidWorks
- Experience with Jira and Confluence
- Familiarity with Linux environments
- Experience with automotive electronics or vehicle hardware
