Position Summary
Sapsol is seeking an experienced, highly technical, and accomplished Electronic Design Engineer with a strong background in hardware circuit design and FPGA development to join our client defense team on a 12-month C2C or 1099 contract basis in Fort Worth, TX, requiring onsite presence (6:00 AM – 3:30 PM shift) and US Citizenship or Green Card status with security clearance eligibility. In this specialized aerospace hardware engineering role, you will spearhead PCB layout design using Altium, electronic circuit simulation with SPICE, FPGA/CPLD programming in Verilog/VHDL, and low-level C programming. You will work closely with cross-functional systems engineers, embedded software teams, and defense program managers to deliver ruggedized electronics meeting rigorous military aerospace standards. Ideal candidates bring a robust academic background in electrical or electronic engineering, deep practical mastery of DO-254 and MIL-STD compliance, and immediate availability for deployment in Fort Worth.
Detailed Job Description
As an Electronic Design Engineer at Sapsol in Fort Worth, TX, you will take full ownership of designing, simulating, developing, and testing complex analog and digital electronic hardware for advanced military aircraft and aerospace systems. Your day-to-day responsibilities encompass schematic capture and PCB layout design using Altium Designer, electronic circuit simulation and signal integrity analysis with SPICE, and FPGA/CPLD RTL design and verification using Verilog and VHDL. You will write low-level C code for microcontroller testing, ensure rigorous compliance with aerospace standards (DO-254, DO-160, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-461), and participate in environmental and EMI/EMC qualification testing. Working in a secure defense environment requiring US Citizenship or Green Card status, you will drive mission-critical hardware reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, capture schematics, and execute complex multilayer PCB layout designs using Altium Designer.
- Perform electronic circuit simulation, worst-case circuit analysis (WCCA), and signal integrity verification using SPICE.
- Develop FPGA and CPLD firmware logic utilizing Verilog and VHDL, including simulation, synthesis, and timing closure.
- Write low-level C programming code for hardware bring-up, peripheral driver testing, and diagnostic validation.
- Ensure strict adherence to aerospace hardware design assurance and environmental standards (DO-254, DO-160, MIL-STD-810/704/461).
- Collaborate closely with systems engineers, embedded software developers, and cross-functional defense teams in Fort Worth, TX.
- Participate in hardware board bring-up, laboratory debugging and prototype troubleshooting using oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
- Support environmental qualification testing, vibration/thermal testing and EMI/EMC compliance evaluations.
- Prepare complete hardware design packages, schematic reviews, test procedures and DO-254 compliance artifacts.
- Participate in formal design reviews (PDR, CDR) and technical interchange meetings with defense clients.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 5+ years of professional electronic hardware design experience within aerospace, defense, or high-reliability industries.
- Strong hands-on proficiency in schematic capture and PCB layout design using Altium Designer.
- Proven expertise in electronic circuit simulation and analysis using SPICE.
- Solid practical experience in FPGA/CPLD programming and digital design using Verilog or VHDL.
- Working knowledge of low-level C programming for hardware bring-up and microcontroller integration.
- Familiarity with military aerospace standards and design assurance guidelines (DO-254, DO-160, MIL-STD-810/704/461).
- Mandatory US Citizenship or Green Card (GC) status with security clearance eligibility (C2C or 1099 engagement).
- Professional availability for onsite employment in Fort Worth, TX (6:00 AM – 3:30 PM shift).
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience designing high-speed digital circuits, RF front-ends, power supply units (PSUs), or motor controllers for military platforms.
- Hands-on familiarity with FPGA development tools (Xilinx Vivado, Intel Quartus, Microchip Libero SoC).
- Experience conducting formal EMI/EMC mitigation and signal integrity / power integrity (SI/PI) simulations.
- Prior working experience in major defense primes or specialized aerospace electronics suppliers.
- Advanced knowledge of configuration management and hardware change control processes.
