Electronics Bench Technician

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Electronics Bench Technician to diagnose, repair, test, and rework electronic assemblies, circuit boards, and related equipment. This position requires strong component-level troubleshooting skills, proficiency with electronic test equipment, and the ability to work with industrial control systems and communication interfaces.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, mechanically and technically skilled, and comfortable troubleshooting complex electronic systems to identify root causes and complete reliable repairs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot malfunctioning electronic assemblies, circuit boards, and equipment to identify root causes of failure.
  • Perform component-level troubleshooting and repair of electronic circuits and assemblies.
  • Read and interpret electronic schematics, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and related documentation.
  • Replace defective electronic components using soldering and desoldering equipment.
  • Perform both through-hole and Surface Mount Technology (SMT) component repair and rework.
  • Use appropriate repair techniques and tools to restore equipment to proper operating condition.
  • Build and modify test fixtures to improve repair and testing efficiency and reliability.
  • Operate electronic test equipment, including:
  • Digital multimeters (DMMs)
  • Oscilloscopes
  • Signal generators
  • Spectrum analyzers
  • DC power supplies
  • Measure and analyze voltage, resistance, current, waveforms, and other electrical characteristics.
  • Verify repaired equipment meets required performance and functional specifications.
  • Connect with and communicate with drives, controllers, HMIs, PLCs, and similar industrial control systems.
  • Troubleshoot communication and connectivity issues.
  • Working knowledge of RS-232 and RS-485 communication interfaces.
  • Accurately document repair procedures, components replaced, and test results in the company database or repair documentation system.
  • Inspect completed repairs to ensure equipment meets OEM specifications, quality requirements, and applicable safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate records and follow established repair, testing, and quality procedures.
Qualifications:
  • Associate degree in Electronics Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related technical field preferred.
  • Equivalent military training, technical education, or hands-on electronics experience may be considered in place of formal education.
  • 1-3 years of hands-on experience troubleshooting, testing, and repairing electronic equipment at the component level.
  • Strong soldering and electronic rework skills.
  • Experience with both through-hole and SMT components.
  • Proficiency using electronic test and measurement equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Knowledge of electronic circuits, components, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Familiarity with PLCs, HMIs, drives, controllers, and industrial communication systems.
  • Working knowledge of RS-232 and RS-485 communication protocols.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems systematically and efficiently.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to sit or stand at a workbench for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform detailed work requires fine motor skills and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to safely operate standard electronics repair and test equipment.
