Job summary

EMIT is seeking a Cabinet Assembly Technician to join its Electrical Assembly team. You will assemble, mount, and wire electrical control cabinets in line with drawings and orders, ensuring accurate, safe, and efficient work that meets quality standards and production targets.

You will read mechanical drawings, identify components, and use hand and power tools to complete tasks. The role emphasizes continuous improvement and strict safety practices in a dynamic production environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Experience in electrical assembly, panel building, cabinet assembly, or manufacturing preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Familiarity with electrical components, wire identification, and assembly tools.
  • Ability to accurately use hand tools, power tools, measuring devices, and wiring equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
  • Basic computer skills for viewing work instructions or manufacturing documentation are preferred.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to learn EMIT products, processes, and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble electrical control cabinets according to manufacturing orders and production schedules.
  • Mount electrical components, devices, and hardware using mechanical drawings and layout documentation.
  • Wire electrical components in accordance with electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering specifications.
  • Route and secure wiring using established workmanship standards.
  • Verify all wiring connections and component placement prior to advancing work to the next operation.
  • Perform self-inspections to ensure assemblies meet engineering and quality requirements before transferring completed work.
  • Build cabinets to EMIT quality standards while following engineering specifications and assembly procedures.
  • Inspect completed work for proper component placement, wire routing, labeling, and workmanship.
  • Identify and correct quality issues before releasing assemblies to the next production stage.
  • Follow all EMIT safety policies, lockout/tagout procedures when applicable, and required PPE guidelines.
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, or quality concerns to leadership.
  • Verify components, hardware, wiring, and documentation before beginning assembly.
  • Ensure the correct revision of drawings and schematics is being used.
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, wire processing equipment, and testing equipment required for cabinet assembly.
  • Report damaged, missing, or incorrect materials to the appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition.
  • Communicate production issues, engineering discrepancies, and material shortages promptly.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with 5S principles.
  • Support team members to maintain production flow and meet daily schedules.
  • Recommend process improvements that increase safety, quality, or efficiency.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and support standardized work practices.

Job description

The Cabinet Assembly Technician is a key role within EMIT's Electrical Assembly department. This position is responsible for assembling, mounting, and wiring electrical control cabinets in accordance with mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and manufacturing orders. The Cabinet Assembly Technician ensures all assemblies are completed accurately, safely, and efficiently while maintaining EMIT's quality standards and supporting production schedules.

Key Accountabilities:
Daily Production & Cabinet Assembly Execution
  • Assemble electrical control cabinets according to manufacturing orders and production schedules.
  • Mount electrical components, devices, and hardware using mechanical drawings and layout documentation.
  • Wire electrical components in accordance with electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering specifications.

Physical & Safety Requirements:
  • Ability to lift up to 50-75 pounds on a repetitive basis.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform repetitive hand movements throughout an entire shift.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to perform detailed wiring and assembly tasks.
  • Ability to distinguish wire colors and read detailed schematics.
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Follow all EMIT safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices when operating tools and handling electrical components and materials.
