Job summary

SURGE Staffing is seeking an experienced Electro-Mechanical Technician for a night shift in a high-speed manufacturing environment. You will maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and improve complex production equipment to keep operations safe and efficient.

The role requires hands-on experience with PLCs, VFDs, motors, HMIs, controls, pneumatics, and instrumentation. You will diagnose problems, respond to breakdowns, and work with production teams to minimize downtime.

Qualifications

Electro-Mechanical Technician - Night Shift

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Electro-Mechanical Technician to support a high-speed manufacturing and production environment. This position is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving complex production equipment to keep operations running safely and efficiently.

The ideal candidate has a strong combination of electrical and mechanical maintenance experience, with hands-on knowledge of PLCs, VFDs, motors, HMIs, controls, pneumatics, instrumentation, and industrial automation.

This is a hands-on maintenance position for someone who can independently diagnose equipment problems, respond to breakdowns, perform preventive maintenance, and work effectively with production and maintenance teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on production equipment
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and control-system issues
• Diagnose equipment breakdowns and make timely repairs to minimize production downtime
• Troubleshoot and modify PLC programming as needed
• Troubleshoot Allen-Bradley PLC systems and related controls
• Work with VFDs, servo drives, motors, HMIs, and industrial automation equipment
• Troubleshoot and repair 3-phase electrical systems, including 480V circuits
• Work with motor starters, motor controls, power distribution, and electrical wiring
• Install and repair electrical panels, motors, control equipment, power circuits, and lighting
• Troubleshoot pneumatic control systems and process-control instrumentation
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, engineering drawings, blueprints, and equipment manuals
• Perform inspections and identify worn, damaged, or failing components
• Replace and install mechanical and electrical components
• Lubricate and service machinery and moving components
• Perform calibration of microprocessor-based control equipment and instrumentation
• Use diagnostic equipment such as multimeters, meggers, amprobes, and other testing equipment
• Document maintenance work, repairs, inspections, and equipment conditions
• Maintain organized maintenance shops, electrical rooms, PLC rooms, tools, and parts inventories
• Coordinate preventive maintenance activities with production and management
• Work with outside equipment and service vendors when technical assistance is needed
• Assist other maintenance technicians as priorities require
• Identify opportunities for equipment and process improvements
• Assist with special maintenance and improvement projects
• Support production operations when needed, including training or assisting machine operators
• Follow all applicable safety procedures, OSHA requirements, NFPA standards, GMP requirements, and company policies

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Associate degree or technical education is a plus
• Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
• Experience maintaining manufacturing or industrial production equipment
• Experience with PLCs and industrial controls
• Experience with Allen-Bradley PLC systems preferred
• Knowledge of VFDs, motors, HMIs, servo drives, and automation equipment
• Experience troubleshooting 480V, 3-phase electrical systems
• Ability to read electrical schematics, blueprints, diagrams, and technical documentation
• Knowledge of pneumatic systems and industrial instrumentation
• Ability to use electrical testing equipment
• Basic computer and maintenance documentation skills
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
• Ability to safely lift and manipulate equipment and components
• Willingness to work nights and a Monday-Saturday schedule as needed

Strong communication skills are important because this position works closely with maintenance technicians, production employees, engineering, supervisors, management, and outside vendors.

An industrial maintenance apprenticeship or technical training is a plus, but hands-on experience with industrial electrical and mechanical systems is highly valued.
