Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced electromagnetic design engineer to design optimal superconducting magnets for a high-precision medical device, delivering reliable performance under regulatory and safety standards.

This role requires hands-on analysis and cross-functional collaboration to diagnose complex issues, develop test plans, validate protocols, and ensure design integrity across coils, cryogenic systems, and supporting structures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; EM or electrical engineering preferred.
  • Experience with superconducting magnet design, operation and component development.
  • Proficiency with EM design tools such as Opera, ANSYS Maxwell, and CST.
  • Knowledge of magnet stability and performance in high-field applications is preferred.
  • Experience with combined EM and mechanical analyses for magnet systems.

  • Deliver high-quality results with minimal supervision and robust documentation.
  • Diagnose complex issues via root cause analysis and experimental processes.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • design optimal solutions for a superconducting magnet as part of a sophisticated medical device
  • deliver high-quality results aligned with regulatory and performance standards with minimal supervision
  • diagnose and resolve complex technical challenges through root cause analysis and experimental process to prevent production disruptions
  • develop and oversee comprehensive test plans and validation protocols to ensure design integrity and compliance
  • evaluate and approve vendor-supplied components and technologies, ensuring alignment with quality, performance, and strategic objectives
  • build and maintain strong internal and external partnerships to influence project outcomes and innovation
  • drive continuous improvement by implementing best practices, mentoring junior engineers, and communicating insights to senior stakeholders
Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience in electromagnetic design and analysis for large scale superconducting magnets, electric motors, generators or other electrical machines
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electromagnetics or Electrical Engineering, Physics or equivalent
  • experience with superconducting magnet design, operation, and component development, including coils, cryogenic systems, and supporting structures using advanced electromagnetic design tools (Opera, ANSYS Maxwell)
  • knowledge of magnet stability and performance considerations in high-field applications is preferred
  • experience conducting combined electromagnetic and mechanical force/stress analysis for magnet systems and working with engineering tools such as ANSYS, Opera-3D, and CST
  • ability or willingness to learn to write your own software using C++, C#, and/or Python
  • demonstrate strong collaboration and adaptability, with the ability to learn new tools and technologies quickly, communicate complex technical concepts clearly, and contribute effectively in cross-functional engineering environments.
