Contributes to the Hospital’s mission by providing diagnostic Electroencephalogram (EEG) studies to assist in the diagnosis of seizure disorders. This clinical staff position will have an impact on improving patient and physician satisfaction by providing the best possible experience for our patients as well as performing and preparing accurate EEG testing and reports for Neurologist’s interpretation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:

Required:

  1. High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  2. Completion of a clinical training course from an American Society of Electroencephalogram Technicians approved school, successful completion of a nationally recognized accredited Polysomnographer program or equivalent on-the-job training.

Preferred: At least one year of EEG Tech experience.

Other Skills/Knowledge:

Required:

  1. Basic Computer Skills.
  2. For safety and quality reasons, must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English with patients, visitors, and fellow members of the hospital team.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, CERTIFICATIONS:

Required: N/A

Preferred: Certification by American Society of Electroencephalogram Technicians.

LIFE SUPPORT CERTIFICATION REQUIRED: Basic Life Support.

POPULATION SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS: Neonate, Infants, Children, Adolescents, Adults, Geriatrics.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

  1. Reports to the Manager of Cardiopulmonary Services.
  2. Not responsible for supervising the work of others.

JOB FUNCTIONS

Consistent with the WE CARE principles and inherent in a hospital environment, employees must be flexible in meeting patients’ and the Hospital’s needs. As part of the Cardiopulmonary team, the EEG Technician:

  1. Gathers and analyzes patient information by reviewing physician orders for specific tests.
  2. Explains testing procedure to patients.
  3. Prepares equipment for use by calibrating equipment required for testing, verifying proper functions, and making adjustments as necessary.
  4. Applies electrodes and sensors to patients according to guidelines.
  5. Performs inpatient or outpatient EEG study and monitors patients for proper function of all EEG channels throughout the study.
  6. Performs inpatient EEG by going to patient units including complex areas such as operating room, ICU, and emergency room.
  7. Assists in the preparation and transcription of reports for physician interpretation.
  8. Cleans and disinfects all equipment.
  9. Assists with scheduling patients for procedures, answering departments, and filing of medical records.
  10. Inputs patient charges and other pertinent information into the Meditech system.
  11. Communicates and collaborates with referring physician and neurology staff to review tests and availability.
