Job summary

General Motors is seeking an Electrode Quality Engineer at the Battery Cell Development Center to own electrode process quality, establish controls, and drive robust problem solving from pilot to scale-up. You will collaborate with process, manufacturing, supplier quality, and product teams to ensure high-performance battery cells.

The role emphasizes documenting quality controls, implementing measurement systems, and leading cross-functional improvements in a fast-paced manufacturing

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
• 3+ years of experience in quality engineering or closely related engineering role in a manufacturing environment.
• Demonstrated experience with materials sampling, testing, and chemical process operations.
• Working knowledge of core quality engineering tools (SPC, Pareto, etc.) and ISO 9001/IATF 16949 principles.
• Experience using data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, JMP, Minitab, or similar) to analyze process and quality data to communicate findings.
• Proven ability to lead cross-functional problem solving in a manufacturing or pilot-line setting.

Responsibilities

• Own electrode process quality for designated unit operations including defining quality characteristics and process controls.
• Develop and maintain quality documentation (process flow diagrams, control plans, risk analyses).
• Lead data-driven process monitoring using statistical tools to detect trends and reduce variation.
• Plan and execute measurement system studies for key electrode attributes.
• Support material introductions by reviewing product acceptance criteria and checkpoints for new electrode materials.
• Lead structured problem solving for yield, scrap, and performance issues in electrode manufacturing.
• Partner with manufacturing and process engineers to validate inspection systems.
• Develop sampling plans and test strategies for electrode builds and contamination controls.
• Facilitate technology transfer and process industrialization from R&D to operations.
• Analyze production data to connect electrode quality metrics to cell performance.
