Sr Mechanical Design Engineer, Automation specialist, SolidWorks expert, Manager

Position Overview: We are seeking an Electro-Mechanical Technician to join our Custom Equipment Group. This team designs and builds in-house custom fixtures and automated equipment to support the manufacturing of advanced medical products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform mechanical assembly of new and duplicated highly custom automated equipment.
  • Route electrical wires and pneumatic tubing around machines and inside control cabinets.
  • Read and interpret 3D models, drawings, manuals, and electrical and pneumatic schematics.
  • Apply mechanical assembly best practices, including ball bearing mounting, dowel pin press fitting, and chain and belt tensioning.
  • Identify root causes of assembly issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Assist in the installation and commissioning of new equipment and machinery.

Fabrication:

  • Use standard shop equipment and power tools to fabricate or modify components, including drilling, tapping, cutting, and punching.
  • Utilize precision tools (calipers, micrometers, etc.) to take accurate measurements and adjust to specifications.

Deep Maintenance:

  • Perform deep maintenance on in-house and out-of-house equipment that cannot be handled by the regular maintenance team.
  • Analyze, disassemble, clean, and repair machines or sub-assemblies without user manuals.
  • Identify root causes of equipment failures (mechanical, electrical, and software) and implement corrective actions.
  • Provide lessons learned and suggest improvements to the design team based on analysis of serviced equipment and its components.

Qualifications:

  • Associate level or equivalent experience in mechanical engineering or a related field.
  • Ability to plan and execute tasks with limited supervision.
  • Team player who can collaborate with others on projects while also owning individual tasks and leading them to completion.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and repair a wide range of equipment and machinery.
  • Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and PLC systems is desirable.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Capable of working in a fast-paced environment with shifting objectives and tasks.
  • Comfortable working in an FDA-regulated environment and wearing cleanroom apparel while performing tasks on production lines.
