Job description

Master the Technology Behind Flight: Join the Aerospace Team as an Electro-Mechanical Technical Operator

Location: Tucson, AZ | Schedule: 2nd Shift - Mon-Fri - 2PM - 10:30PM

*Train on first shift for 30-60 days @$23/hour - $2 shift differential once transfer to 2nd shift*

PDS Tech Commercial is partnering with a leader in the aerospace industry to find an exceptional Electro-Mechanical Technical Operator who thrives where advanced electronics, precision craftsmanship, and hands-on problem-solving meet.

If you can open a complex schematic, trace a signal across a circuit board, identify a failed component, and understand why it failed— not simply that it failed—you could be the technical expert we're looking for.

In this role, you'll help repair, overhaul, test, and return critical aircraft electronic and electro-mechanical equipment to service. You'll work at the component level, tackle legacy systems that demand deep technical expertise, and serve as a go-to resource for engineering and production teams.

What You’ll Do
  • Troubleshoot to the component level: Perform advanced fault analysis and debugging on Circuit Card Assemblies (CCAs), chassis, wiring, connectors, and box-level assemblies.
  • Trace and diagnose circuits: Follow circuit paths and signals through complex electronics and identify faulty components—including resistors, inductors, and capacitors—under varying environmental conditions.
  • Repair and overhaul aviation equipment: Diagnose, test, modify, and repair aircraft electronic and electro-mechanical devices in support of an FAA Repair Station and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Support production and engineering: Troubleshoot test beds and test-stand setups, collect and analyze test data, gather performance metrics, and help reduce cycle times and manufacturing bottlenecks.
  • Support inspection processes: Contribute to automated visual inspection activities and help identify opportunities to improve quality and efficiency.
  • Be a technical resource: Serve as a subject matter expert for advanced troubleshooting, repair, and soldering activities.
  • Train and mentor others: Develop training programs, create practical work instructions, provide functional guidance, and share your technical expertise with operators.
  • Deliver precision soldering: Perform and support advanced soldering work while maintaining rigorous quality and workmanship standards.
What You Bring
Required Qualifications
  • 5–10 years of relevant technical or manufacturing experience.
  • 4+ years of advanced, component-level troubleshooting experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret complex electronic schematics.
  • Strong understanding of circuit operation and the ability to trace signals and circuit paths to isolate failures.
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting CCAs and electronic assemblies at the component level.
  • Strong soldering skills and the ability to successfully obtain required J-Standard and IPC certifications. Training and certification courses are provided in-house.
  • Ability to pass rigorous soldering qualifications and demonstrate a solid understanding of SMT processing.
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications and accurately red-line technical documentation.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and documentation-control systems.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, particularly when partnering with engineering and production teams.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics), or equivalent hands-on technical experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience repairing, testing, or overhauling aircraft electronic or electro-mechanical equipment.
  • Experience working in an FAA Repair Station or similarly regulated aerospace environment.
  • Experience with legacy aerospace electronics and electro-mechanical systems.
  • Experience developing work instructions or technical training programs.
  • Experience mentoring technicians or operators.
  • Advanced soldering and SMT rework experience.
  • Experience troubleshooting manufacturing test equipment, test beds, or test stands.
  • Experience identifying process improvements, reducing cycle times, or resolving manufacturing bottlenecks.
The Environment

This is a hands-on role in a dynamic manufacturing environment where precision matters. You'll work around machinery, ambient noise, and varying temperatures while maintaining strict health and safety standards.

The Position Requires
  • Precise manual dexterity and strong hand/eye coordination.
  • Sustained visual focus for detailed soldering, inspection, troubleshooting, and documentation.
  • The ability to perform occasional light to heavy physical tasks, including moving materials and lifting objects, in accordance with established safety procedures.
Ready to Put Your Expertise to Work?

If you're a hands-on electronics expert who loves solving problems others can't, PDS Tech Commercial wants to hear from you.
