Job summary

Rocky Mountain Scientific Laboratory in Littleton, Colorado, seeks an Electro-Mechanical Design Engineer to lead electrical design and integration for automated manufacturing systems, including robotic subsystems and centralized control panels. The role reports to the Chemical Processing Group Manager and emphasizes architecture definition, documentation, and field wiring.

The successful candidate will design wiring schematics, panels, and component lists, program PLCs, ensure NFPA 79/UL508A

Qualifications

BS or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
5+ years of relevant electrical design experience in automation or controls.
Experience designing mechanical systems using SOLIDWORKS.
Must be able to start within 3 weeks of offer.
Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. and work in a lab/test environment.
Willingness to travel to Texas and other sites for commissioning and testing (5-10%).

Responsibilities

Lead the design, documentation, and implementation of complex electrical control systems.
Develop and maintain wiring schematics, panel layouts, cable schedules, and component lists using SOLIDWORKS Electrical.
Design and build large control panels and power distribution systems.
Specify and select electrical components, sensors, safety systems, PLCs, HMIs, and communication devices.
Program or assist programming PLCs (Rockwell, Siemens) and coordinate robot integration efforts.
Generate and maintain electrical documentation packages for each system.
Ensure designs meet safety and regulatory standards (NFPA 79, UL508A, NEC).
Collaborate with engineers through design, build, evaluation, and commissioning phases.
Lead electrical troubleshooting and commissioning of robotic and automated systems.
Mentor junior engineers or technicians.
Work with energetic material processing and manufacturing technologies.
