Job description

Employment Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire, 100% On-Site

Position Overview:

We are seeking a hands‑on Electro Mechanical Engineer to join a growing aerospace and avionics engineering organization in Exton, PA. This Electro Mechanical Engineer position will support the design, development, integration, testing, and production of sophisticated electro‑mechanical products and assemblies used in commercial, business, and military aviation applications.

The ideal candidate combines strong mechanical engineering fundamentals with practical knowledge of electrical/electronic systems and enjoys working directly with hardware. This individual will collaborate closely with electrical, systems, manufacturing, quality, and production teams to take products from concept and prototype through qualification and production.

This is a full‑time, fully on‑site position requiring regular hands‑on involvement with engineering prototypes, test equipment, manufacturing processes, and production hardware.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, modify, and support electro‑mechanical components, assemblies, enclosures, and systems for aerospace/avionics products.
  • Develop mechanical designs for electronic equipment, including chassis, housings, mounting structures, brackets, panels, connectors, cabling, and related hardware.
  • Create and maintain detailed 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, specifications, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Perform tolerance analysis, dimensional stack‑ups, material selection, and design‑for‑manufacturability evaluations.
  • Integrate mechanical components with PCBs, displays, sensors, wiring, connectors, and other electrical/electronic hardware.
  • Build, assemble, modify, and evaluate engineering prototypes and production units.
  • Develop and execute engineering tests to validate mechanical and electro‑mechanical designs.
  • Troubleshoot hardware failures and electro‑mechanical issues using a structured root‑cause analysis approach.
  • Support environmental and qualification testing, including vibration, shock, temperature, and other aerospace‑related test requirements.
  • Work closely with Manufacturing Engineering and Production to resolve assembly, fit, tolerance, quality, and manufacturability issues.
  • Support design changes, engineering change orders, configuration management, and product lifecycle documentation.
  • Evaluate component obsolescence and recommend suitable replacement components or design modifications.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide technical recommendations regarding reliability, manufacturability, serviceability, cost, and performance.
  • Interface with suppliers and internal manufacturing teams regarding component specifications, fabrication requirements, and technical issues.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives for existing products and manufacturing processes.
  • Ensure designs and engineering documentation comply with applicable company, customer, aerospace, and regulatory requirements.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electro‑Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in mechanical or electro‑mechanical product design and development.
  • Strong experience with 3D CAD modeling and detailed engineering drawings.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, dimensional stack‑ups, and engineering drawing standards.
  • Experience designing mechanical hardware that interfaces with electronic components and assemblies.
  • Understanding of common manufacturing processes including machining, sheet metal fabrication, fastening, assembly, and finishing.
  • Experience supporting prototype builds, product testing, troubleshooting, and production.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications.
  • Strong hands‑on troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively across electrical engineering, systems engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and production teams.
  • Strong technical documentation and communication skills.
  • Must be comfortable working 100% on‑site in Exton, PA.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience within aerospace, avionics, defense, aviation, or another highly regulated hardware environment.
  • Experience designing packaging or mechanical structures for electronic/avionics equipment.
  • Knowledge of aerospace environmental and qualification testing, such as vibration, shock, thermal, altitude, or environmental testing.
  • Familiarity with DO-160 or similar aerospace environmental qualification standards.
  • Experience with PCB packaging, connectors, cable assemblies, wiring harnesses, displays, sensors, or electromechanical controls.
  • Experience performing or supporting FMEA, root‑cause analysis, and corrective‑action investigations.
  • Familiarity with product configuration management and formal Engineering Change Order/Engineering Change Notice processes.
  • Experience working within an AS9100 or similarly regulated quality environment.
  • Familiarity with FAA certification requirements or aerospace product‑development processes.
  • Experience supporting products throughout the complete lifecycle from concept and prototype through qualification, production, and field support.
Ideal Candidate:

The successful candidate for this Electro Mechanical Engineer opportunity is an engineer who enjoys being close to the product as opposed to someone who wants to spend the entire day behind a CAD workstation. Someone who is comfortable moving between design work, the engineering lab, and the production floor to understand problems firsthand and develop practical solutions.

We are looking for a candidate who can combine mechanical design expertise, electrical aptitude, hands‑on troubleshooting, and manufacturing awareness to develop reliable products in a fast‑paced aerospace environment.

NOTE
  • Salary range is negotiable and is determined on a candidate‑by‑candidate basis, based upon prior relevant work experience.
  • Due to regulatory guidelines, this candidate MUST be either a United States Citizen or Green Card holder to be considered for this opportunity.
