While reporting to the Plant Engineer or Maintenance Supervisor, the Electro Mechanic performs maintenance tasks, specifically proactive tasks, necessary to ensure high quality, efficient, and timely shipment of Sonoco products. Safety, quality, productivity, and a strong work ethic are core to the Sonoco culture.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Understand and follow plant safety rules, including LOTO and safe machine operation.
• Read and interpret electrical blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, specifications, and technical data.
• Work on motors, contractors, and relays with a multimeter to verify component functionality.
• Operate advanced shop equipment such as bandsaws, mills, and lathes.
• Maintain and repair chillers, process pumps, compressors, ink pumps, and glue pumps.
• Analyze and resolve mechanical and electrical issues related to equipment.
• Demonstrate knowledge of electrical controls/PLCs, including troubleshooting and repairs.
• Perform preventative, predictive maintenance, routine repairs, and calibration to minimize downtime.
• Ensure all duties are performed safely, professionally, and efficiently.
• Diagnose root causes of production equipment issues to determine electrical or mechanical solutions.
• Document parts used and repairs in the CMMS; maintain organized spare parts inventory.
• Participate in Sonoco’s Performance System activities as required.
• Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
• Use Personal Protective Equipment as required.
• Ensure proper and safe operational conditions of all production and related equipment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

We’d love to hear from you if:

• You have experience in an industrial environment or military troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining manufacturing equipment.
• Industry experience in blown films, sheet extruders, flexographic printing, lamination, slitting, or related equipment is preferred.
• Experience with PLC troubleshooting and industrial/motor controls is a plus.
• You can operate a forklift.
• You are comfortable with mechanical lifts, ladders, kneeling, bending, twisting, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
• You can work independently, manage multiple tasks, and are willing to work rotating shifts with overtime, including weekends.
