Job description

We're searching for an Electrical Technician. In this role, you'll support a cutting-edge research laboratory focused on autonomous, high-throughput materials discovery by building, wiring, integrating, and maintaining electrical and controls systems used across laboratory equipment and instrumentation. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on electrical work, troubleshooting, and working closely with engineers and scientists in a fast-paced research environment.

Responsibilities
  • Build, wire, and integrate electrical control panels, instrumentation, and laboratory equipment based on engineering drawings and specifications, as well as engineer-provided sketches and verbal direction
  • Support the installation and integration of sensors, valves, flow controllers, thermocouples, and other electrical and controls hardware
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, technical drawings, and equipment documentation
  • Incorporate redlines and design changes from engineers, and assist with electrical CAD drawings and equipment layouts
  • Troubleshoot electrical, instrumentation, and controls issues using appropriate testing and measurement equipment
  • Perform basic electrical calculations using standard engineering formulas
  • Support the selection and installation of wiring, cables, relays, breakers, terminal blocks, enclosures, and related electrical components
  • Maintain accurate drawings, bills of materials, equipment documentation, and revision records
  • Work closely with engineers and technical teams to support equipment builds, modifications, testing, and laboratory projects
  • Follow established electrical safety practices, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), while maintaining a safe and organized work environment
Qualifications
  • Prior experience as a qualified electrical worker on 208V or above systems
  • Hands-on instrumentation and controls experience, including low-voltage (24VDC) electrical wiring, field and panel wiring, and control panel/enclosure fabrication
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and build or modify equipment from technical drawings
  • Experience using digital multimeters, voltage meters, current measurement tools, and other electrical test equipment
  • Knowledge of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and electrical safety practices
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain clear technical documentation, follow protocols, and write clear notes/task summaries
  • Flexibility to adapt to evolving processes and workflows in a startup/research lab environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience wiring and integrating instrumentation such as mass flow controllers, pressure transducers, solenoid valves, thermocouples, and similar devices
  • Experience wiring digital and analog I/O and industrial communication protocols such as EtherCAT, RS-232/485, or Modbus
  • Experience selecting electrical components including wire/cable, relays, circuit breakers, terminal blocks, and enclosures
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar electrical CAD tools, redlining schematics, and building to print
  • Experience working with vacuum systems, gloveboxes, cryogenic equipment, or inert-atmosphere systems
  • Experience troubleshooting and maintaining laboratory instrumentation or electro-mechanical equipment
  • Familiarity with electrical standards such as NFPA 70 (NEC), UL 508A, or NFPA 79
  • Experience with Beckhoff controls, I/O modules, IPCs, or EtherCAT systems
  • Previous experience supporting materials science, semiconductor, chemistry, or research laboratory environments
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, controls, materials science, physics, chemistry, or a related technical field, or equivalent hands‑on technical experience
