Pittsylvania County Schools is hiring an Electrician in the Maintenance Department for division-wide coverage in Chatham, Virginia. The position is twelve-month with benefits as specified in the Classified Agreement and reports to the Chief Maintenance Officer.

The role installs, maintains and repairs electrical and electromechanical systems, including lighting, security, fire alarms, clocks, and PA systems.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required.
  • Two years of trade school or equivalent experience.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Master electrician license preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assembles, installs, test and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus and fixtures.
  • Diagnoses malfunctioning systems, apparatus and components.
  • Connects wires to circuit breakers, transformers or other components.
  • Inspects electrical systems, equipment and components.
  • Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits to ensure safe operation.
  • Requires physical activity including standing, walking, bending, and lifting 80–100 pounds.
  • Must work inside or outside in extreme weather conditions.
  • On-call 24/7 for emergencies.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Electrician - Maintenance Department

FLSA: Non Exempt

REPORTS TO: Chief Maintenance Officer

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve month employment with benefits as specified in the Classified Agreement

DESCRIPTION: This is a skilled manual and technical job at the experienced level. Installs, maintains, repairs electrical and electromechanical systems and equipment, including systems of all types: electrical distribution, lighting, commercial security, door access, closed circuit television, fire alarm, telephone, public address systems, clocks, bells, intercoms and scoreboards of various manufactures.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma
  • Two years of trade school or equivalent work experience
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Master Electrical License - Preferred

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assembles, installs, test and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus and fixtures
  • Diagnoses malfunctioning systems, apparatus and components
  • Connects wires to circuit breakers, transformers or other components
  • Inspects electrical systems, equipment and components
  • Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures to ensure compatibility safety of system
  • Requires standing, walking, sitting, bending, squatting, arm and hand movements, and climbing
  • Ability to carry tools and lift and handle materials of 80 to 100 pounds
  • Ability to climb up and down stairs with heavy loads to load and unload materials
  • Requires working at heights on aerial lifts, scaffolding, stepladders and/or extension ladders; or to crawl in, under, over, or through equipment
  • Must be able to work inside or outside in extreme weather conditions
  • Knowledge of safety practices
  • Required to be on call 24/7 for emergencies

SALARY RANGE: $45,590.54 - $68,385.82
