General Description: The Electrician performs skilled electrical work, including installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical controls, wiring, and lighting systems, and inspecting transformers, circuit breakers, and other electrical components.
Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects and materials. Work requires frequent standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching in various positions to access electrical systems and equipment. The employee frequently uses their hands to handle, grasp, and manipulate tools, wiring, and materials; engages in repetitive motion and fine dexterity when assembling, connecting, or testing electrical components. Visual acuity is required to inspect wiring, read blueprints, and perform precise installations or repairs. Hearing and speaking abilities are essential for communicating with coworkers, supervisors, and contractors in environments where machinery and equipment are in operation. The work may involve working in elevated areas, confined spaces, or awkward positions for extended periods.
Work is primarily performed in and around school buildings, mechanical rooms, and outdoor campus areas. The position involves regular exposure to electrical hazards, moving mechanical parts, confined spaces, high places, and varying weather conditions. Employees may encounter dust, noise, vibrations, and occasional exposure to fumes or chemicals associated with electrical or maintenance work. Tasks may require the use of ladders, lifts, and personal protective equipment (PPE) in compliance with safety standards. The work is often performed independently or as part of a maintenance team and may require adjusting hours or responding to emergencies outside of normal work schedules. This position may also require participation in an on‑call rotation to respond to after‑hours, weekend, or emergency maintenance needs to ensure the safety and operational continuity of school facilities.
