Michigan Department of Corrections seeks an Electrician to oversee the electrical needs at Lakeland Correctional Facility. You will direct the electrical shop and inmate work crews, maintain service and security systems, and install new wiring under state and local regulations.

Qualified candidates have at least one year of electrical trade experience, hold a journeyman electrician license, and may need a CDL for state vehicle operations. This is a drug and alcohol tested position.

This position is the recognized resource to inspect and ensure all work complies with state and local regulations and applicable standards. This is a drug and alcohol tested position.

Position Description

Education

Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school.

Experience

One year of electrical trade experience equivalent to an Electrician Licensed 9.

Possession of a journeyman electrician's license.

Some positions may require possession of the Commercial Driver's License (CDL) issued by the Secretary of State as required by Public Act 346 of 1988 to operate a designated state vehicle.

The Department of Corrections may screen out job applicants who have been convicted of a felony in accordance with Public Act 191 of 2017. Applicants who have been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony are ineligible for employment with the Department of Corrections until satisfactory completion of any sentence imposed, including parole or probation.

New hires to the MDOC along with previous MDOC employees that are returning after being away from the department for more than two years will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) either 40 hours or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on their level of offender contact and job classification. All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their non-custody new employee training.

This position is eligible for $0.40/hour pay premium.

This is a drug and alcohol test-designated position.
