Job summary

University of Alabama in Huntsville is seeking an Electrician I for the Facilities & Operations department to perform skilled electrical installation, repair, and maintenance. The role includes a second shift with differential pay and a schedule that is fixed once set, Monday–Friday.

Responsibilities include wiring, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and supporting HVAC systems while ensuring safety compliance and timely documentation.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of direct electrical trade experience.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications.
• Must participate in on-call rotation and be available for overtime.
• Ability to work off of a vertical lift and lift up to required weights.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain an acceptable MVR.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and install conduits and wires.
• Locate and repair power distribution failures and short circuits.
• Install/repair lighting, panels, outlets, switches, and related equipment.
• Repair motors, motor starters, and contactors; rewire old circuits.
• Instruct electrician helpers and supervise work on site.
• Reset boilers, chillers, HVAC equipment; respond to leaks and lockouts.
• Support safety programs and complete documentation daily.
• Interact with work orders via computer/tablet devices.
