Description Of Work

The U.S. Meat Animal Research Center (USMARC) is a 34,000-acre facility located near Clay Center, NE. The work performed at USMARC supports research that is focused on solving high priority problems for the U.S. beef cattle, sheep, and swine industries.

As an Electrician I, you will:
  • Assist with the installation, alteration, addition, maintenance, troubleshooting, and/or repair of electrical systems, lighting controls, access control systems, building security systems, fire alarm systems, and building automation control systems.
  • Learn to interpret and use schematics and blueprint drawings to complete the installation and troubleshooting of electrical conduit systems, wiring, and device termination, and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Urgent situations occasionally require after-hours work.

Electricians are assigned to a rotating, on-call schedule.

This position requires registration as a Nebraska Apprentice Electrician upon hire. There is no exam to obtain an apprentice card.

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalency and registration as a Nebraska Apprentice Electrician upon hire.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions, think critically, and maintain attention to detail.
  • Familiar with and able to operate tools and machinery.
  • Able to lift 50 pounds and to work from a ladder and/or aerial equipment.
  • Available by cell phone for campus emergencies and participation in weekend and after-hours on-call rotations.
  • Valid driver’s license and meet University driver eligibility requirements.
Preferred Qualifications

The following qualifications are preferred, but not required:

  • Associate’s degree in electrical technology, or other related field of study.
  • Experience working with electrical and low voltage systems.
  • Familiarity with Emergency Management Control System ( EMCS ) and/or Computerized Maintenance Management System ( CMMS ).
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
  • Knowledge of or experience with building, electrical, and fire codes.
Posted Salary

$19.69/hr minimum
