Job summary

Job Description And Duties

This position is for DSH-Coalinga.

This is the entry and first journey level of this series. Incumbents install transmission lines for electrical equipment; assemble, install and repair electric lights, motors, heaters, generators, transformers, switchboards, branch circuits, conduits & pathways, and other electrical apparatus; troubleshoot electrical systems; operate electrical power generating plants; maintain an electric shop; operate electrical equipment; advise in the selection and storage of electrical equipment; consult and work with other tradespeople; make rough sketches and estimate the materials needed for minor electrical installations; keep simple records and make reports; and instruct and lead unskilled assistants.

All state civil service employees are currently subject to a mandatory Personal Leave Program (PLP). The PLP program reduces the monthly gross salary but provides PLO leave credits in lieu of pay. The amount of salary reduction depends on the classification and associated union Bargaining Unit (BU). The BU that represents this position is BU# 12 - International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE). The expected salary reduction will be 3% of the salary identified above, and you will accrue approximately 5 each qualifying pay period. Incumbents will be subject to the PLP salary reduction and leave accruals through June 30, 2027.

Department Information

DSH-Coalinga opened in 2005 and began treating forensically committed patients, mostly of which are sexually violent predators. It is a self-contained psychiatric hospital constructed with a security perimeter. California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) provides perimeter security as well as transportation of patients to outside medical services and court proceedings.
