Job Description And Duties

Patton State Hospital Human Resources Department is accepting applications for at least one (1) Permanent, Full-Time appointment to the Electrician I position. This vacancy exists in the Plant Operations Department and is under the direction of the Electrician Supervisor.

Applicants must possess knowledge of principles, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the electrical trade relevant to general commercial construction. Current knowledge of relevant CalOSHA safety orders applicable to the California Electric Code and Electrical Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety to electrical work.

Applicant should have knowledge and experience in installation and repair of electrical lines and electrical equipment; assembly, install and repair of electric lights, motors, heaters, generators, transformers, switchboards and other electrical apparatus; troubleshooting electrical systems; instructing and leading unskilled assistants. Applicants should be skilled in rough and finish electrical including the use of hand and power tools, the ability to read blueprints, interpret plans and specifications, keep records and make simple written reports, prepare rough sketches of electrical work and make estimates of materials and labor.

ABILITY TO:

Interpret and work from blueprints, drawings, plans and specifications.
Make rough sketches and estimates of the costs of electrical work; keep simple records and make reports.
Run conduit in a neat and workmanlike manner.
Calculate simple load requirements
Use electrical test instruments for troubleshooting.
Make minor adjustments to security cameras; or replace if necessary.
Make minor adjustments to television sets and/or replace if necessary.
Repair panic alarms, fire alarms/alert, i.e., low voltage circuits.
Ability to bend; reach; ascent stairs, slopes, and inclines; work at heights applicable to trade demands, and labor in the outdoors in all weather conditions.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Principles, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment.

TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY (SITE SPECIFIC):

Working knowledge of California Electric Code and Electrical Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial, Safety, and a strong understanding of electrical theory. Employee must be competent to install utilization power assemblies; install and repair lighting, motor circuits, heaters, generators, transformers, switchboards, and other electrical apparatus. Additional competency and ability to operate electrical power generating plants; maintain an electric shop, operate electrical equipment as well as make rough sketches and estimate the cost of minor electrical installations. Finally, the employee must keep simple records and make basic written reports.
