Job summary

The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, CA, seeks an Electrician to maintain, install, alter, and repair electrical systems across the institute’s facilities. The role requires a strong background in electrical work and a completed Apprenticeship, with at least four years of experience.

You will collaborate with facilities staff, contractors, and vendors, interpret blueprints, and document work in our CMMS. Competitive hourly pay and comprehensive benefits are provided.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; relevant experience preferred.
• Completion of an Electrician Apprenticeship is required or equivalent training.
• Minimum 4 years of directly related electrical experience and knowledge of codes.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, install, alter, and repair electrical boards, panels and related distribution hardware, motors, control centers, transformers, switch gear, wiring, lighting, and fire alarm systems.
• Test equipment for safety and efficiency; inspect circuits for proper grounding and shielding.
• Respond to emergencies, power failures, and electrical malfunctions; coordinate shutdowns as needed.
• Interpret blueprints and drawings to determine installation or repair requirements; coordinate with facilities staff and vendors.
• Record hours, CMMS entries, and manage basic labor/material estimates; order supplies.
