Job summary

DuPage County is seeking an Electrician to support Facilities Management and Public Works projects across multiple sites. The role focuses on installing, maintaining, and repairing complex electrical systems, including control centers and panels, with emphasis on diagnostics, safety, and documentation.

The successful candidate will contribute to project work orders, balance loads, and update wiring diagrams, while ensuring operations meet safety standards and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Electrical trade courses plus six years industrial electrical work experience, or two years as Journeyman Electrician.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Illinois Driver's License.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, lays out, installs and repairs complex electrical equipment including controls, switchboards, panels and relays.
  • Establishes balanced loads and wires complex circuits.
  • Diagnoses electrical problems and replaces parts as needed; tests and adjusts.
  • Reads wiring diagrams and records changes.
  • Directs Electrician Technicians and ensures safety of assistants.

Union Assignment

This position is assigned to the IUOE - LOCAL 399 BARGAINING UNIT.

Responsibilities
  • Plans, lays out, installs and repairs a variety of complex electrical equipment including electronic controls, switchboards, control centers and panels, relays, circuit breakers and various other types of electronic equipment involving transistor circuits
  • Establishes balance loads
  • Lays out and wires complex circuits
  • Diagnoses electrical problems and replaces or repairs parts as necessary
  • Detects and replaces defective control modules, tests and makes adjustments
  • Prepares wiring diagrams to record all changes
  • Recommends ordering of supplies and maintains various work records
  • Directs and instructs the work of Electrician Technicians where necessary and is responsible for the safety of their assistants
  • Makes modifications to older equipment to keep it operating
  • Keeps supervisor informed of modifications
  • Maintains regular attendance and punctuality.
Requirements
  • Completion of a High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma equivalent
  • Completion of electrical trade courses plus six years experience in industrial electrical work including electronic circuitry; or two years of experience as a Journeyman Electrician
  • Must possess and maintain in good standing a valid Illinois Driver's License

Post offer physical is required.
