The Electrical Shop, part of Facilities Management, plays an essential role in supporting the University’s mission by ensuring a safe, reliable, and fully operational campus environment. The team maintains nearly all campus electrical systems, including primary and secondary distribution systems, underground infrastructure, interior circuits, panels, transformers, switchgear, and all indoor and outdoor lighting. Electricians contribute to daily operations as well as Special Repair and Minor Capital Outlay projects that directly support teaching, learning, research, and student life. Facilities Management serves as the steward of more than 50 buildings across 616 acres. The department maintains and renovates facilities, plans and manages new construction, and advances University initiatives by creating a welcoming and dynamic environment for students, faculty, staff, and the broader community. We take pride in caring for Sacramento State’s capital assets and in the skilled professionals whose work helps power the campus mission every day.
Work requires thorough knowledge of electrical theory and the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the electrical trade for the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical apparatuses, equipment and systems; and a thorough knowledge of applicable state and federal codes and regulations pertaining to the electrical trade, including the National Electric Code and Electrical Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety of the State of California.

These abilities normally would be acquired through any combination of progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates achievement of journey‑level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a standard electrician’s apprenticeship program.
