Job summary

Delphinus seeks an experienced electrician to perform electrical work on U.S. Navy shore facilities, ships and submarines. Tasks include inspections, repairs, modernization and alterations at Norfolk, VA.

The candidate will troubleshoot electrical systems, read blueprints, conduct safety checks, and wire panels with minimal supervision. Travel possibility to other locations may be required.

Qualifications

• 1-4 years of experience in shipboard electrical installations or formal related training.
• Ability to read blueprints, diagrams and technical instructions.
• Must understand SDS and electrical theory basics.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and test electrical systems aboard naval facilities and ships.
• Perform voltage checks and safety inspections.
• Make connections to panels, switches and boxes.
• Maintain clean work areas and assist travel as needed.
• Operate autonomously with minimal supervision.

Description

GENERAL SUMMARY: Performs electrical work on U.S. Navy shore facilities, waterborne vessels, surface ships and/or submarines. Tasks will be related to inspections, repairs, modernization and/or alterations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Other duties may be assigned.

• Performs troubleshooting and/or testing of various electrical, systems, circuits, controls, instruments and equipment, onboard military shore facilities, Navy ships/vessels to include submarines and/or ship’s components and documents test requirements.
• Conducts voltage and other electrical safety checks.
• Performs connections/hook-ups to panels, switches, and boxes.
• Assists with cleaning up work area (removing debris from work area).
• Employeesmay be required to travel for work to other locations

REQUIREMENTS

• 1-4years of experience in shipboard electrical installations; or completion of a formal related course of study through either a community college, technical or trade school, military training, formal company training program or an apprenticeship program.
• Basic experience with Voltmeters, Ammeters, Ohmmeters, Megohmmeters, (ET1 only) Light Loss meters, (ET1 only) Optical Time Delay Reflectometers (OTDRs); and general hand tools, such as screwdrivers, wire strippers, crimp tools, wrenches, knives, pliers, drills, and saws.
• Able to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, wiring diagrams, written technical instructions and manuals.
• Able to read and understand material safety data sheets (SDS).
• Perform basic troubleshooting and/or testing of various electrical, systems, circuits, controls, instruments and equipment.
• Basic understanding of electrical theory.
• Able to correctly wire simple devices, such as power/lighting panels, power/lighting distribution boxes, small terminal boxes, outlet receptacles, etc., with minimal supervision.
• Graduate of a NAVSEA approved Cableway Installation and Inspection course.
• (ET1 only) Full competency in Navy shipboard fiber optic methods and is currently, or has previously been, certified under NAVSEA Drawing 8477552B, which meets the requirements of NAVSEA Standard Item 009-123 and MIL-STD-1678.
• Must be able to perform work autonomously, with minimal guidance, and have an expectation to assist other job requirements beyond the role of E1/ET1.
• Must be prepared to perform an unassisted thorough practical demonstration of skills that may include tool and part identification, mock assembly and testing.

Wage range: $18.00 - $36.28 hourly
