Job summary

Delphinus Engineering, Inc. seeks an experienced shipboard electrician to perform electrical work on U.S. Navy shore facilities, vessels, and submarines. You will handle inspections, repairs, modernization and alterations as part of a field team.

Applicants should have 3–6 years of shipboard electrical experience or equivalent training, be proficient with test meters, read wiring diagrams, and follow NAVSEA procedures. Travel to other locations may be required.

Qualifications

  • 3–6 years of shipboard electrical installations experience, or formal related training with 1–5 years of shipboard experience.
  • Advanced use of voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, megohmmeters and related equipment.
  • Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams and manuals.
  • Ability to design simple circuit sketches and determine material and labor needs.
  • Must read SDS and follow safety procedures.
  • Graduate NAVSEA-approved Cableway Installation and Inspection course.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and test electrical systems on Navy shore facilities and ships.
  • Perform voltage checks and electrical safety assessments.
  • Repair electrical equipment including motors, switches, panels, lights.
  • Wire connections to panels, switches, and boxes.
  • Assist lead in interpreting drawings and supervising small electrician teams.
  • Complete objective quality evidence forms and comply with safety rules.
  • Travel to other locations as required.

Salary Range: $28.00 - $31.00 per hour. In determining compensation, various factors will be considered, including but not limited to educational background; relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities; market factors; and geographic location.

Job Summary

Performs electrical work on U.S. Navy shore facilities, waterborne vessels, surface ships and/or submarines. Tasks will be related to inspections, repairs, modernization and/or alterations.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs troubleshooting and/or testing of various electrical systems, circuits, controls, instruments and equipment on military shore facilities, Navy ships/vessels to include submarines and/or ship’s components and documents test requirements.
  • Conducts voltage and other electrical safety checks.
  • Repairs electrical equipment such as: motors, switches, radios, appliances, control panels, starters, navigation lights and lighting equipment.
  • Performs connections/hook‑ups to panels, switches, and boxes.
  • Pulls cables in cableways and bulkhead and deck stuffing tubes.
  • Assists Electrical Lead in identifying discrepancies in drawings.
  • May supervise small teams of electricians.
  • Fills out objective quality evidence (OQE) forms.
  • Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Employees may be required to travel to work at other locations.
Requirements
  • 3–6 years of experience in shipboard electrical installations; or completion of a formal related course of study through a community college, technical or trade school, military training, formal company training program or an apprenticeship program AND 1–5 years of experience in shipboard electrical installations.
  • Advanced experience with Voltmeters, Ammeters, Ohmmeters, Megohmmeters, (ET2 only) Light Loss meters, (E2 only) OTDRs, (ET2 only) Visual Fault Locators (VFLs); and general hand tools such as screwdrivers, wire strippers, crimp tools, wrenches, knives, pliers, drills, and saws.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, wiring diagrams, written technical instructions and manuals.
  • Ability to design, draw and explain simple circuit sketches and wiring diagrams, and determine material and labor requirements to implement the design.
  • Ability to read and understand material safety data sheets (SDS).
  • Perform troubleshooting and/or testing of various electrical systems, circuits, controls, instruments and equipment.
  • Possess an understanding of electrical theory.
  • Ability to independently and correctly wire complex devices such as large terminal boxes, IC switchboards, power load centers, computer switches and servers, equipment racks, etc.
  • Graduate of a NAVSEA approved Cableway Installation and Inspection course.
  • Graduate of a Copper Connector Fabricator course (32 hour) that meets the requirements of NAVSEA Standard Item 009-73 and MIL-STD-2003‑5.
  • (ET2 only) Full competency in Navy shipboard fiber optic methods and is currently, or has previously been, certified under NAVSEA Drawing 8477552B, which meets the requirements of NAVSEA Standard Item 009-123 and MIL-STD-1678.
  • Must be able to supervise and direct a small installation team (3–5 personnel) with minimal guidance.
