  • Electrician II: Minimum 4 years experience, Journeyman license, knowledge of NFPA 70/72, testing device operation, ability to read blueprints.
  • Electrician III: Minimum 4 years experience, strong documentation, project management, understanding of construction principles.

Responsibilities

  • Install, alter, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical, lighting, access control, fire alarm, and automation systems.
  • Interpret schematic drawings and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Work on a rotating on-call schedule.

Description of Work

The University of Nebraska‑Lincoln is committed to a work environment that promotes professional growth. The Building Systems Maintenance department employs Electricians across four levels (I–IV). Responsibilities include installation, alteration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical, lighting, access control, fire alarm, and automation systems. Candidates must interpret schematic drawings, ensure compliance with regulations, and work on a rotating on‑call schedule.

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; able to lift 50 lbs; use ladder or aerial equipment; valid driver’s license; meet university driver eligibility.
  • Electrician I: Ability to follow instructions; strong communication; attention to detail; time management; basic tool operation; State of Nebraska Apprentice Electrical License or ability to obtain upon employment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in electrical technology or related field.
  • 1+ year experience (for I) and above-level requirements; proficiency in EMCS, CMMS, Microsoft Office; knowledge of building, electrical, fire codes.
  • Contractor Electrical License and additional training for higher levels.
Physical and Legal Requirements
  • Background check required.
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required.
  • Must pass DOT‑approved pre‑employment substance testing.
