Responsibilities

• Install, operate, test, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair all electrical equipment and switchgear used in the water and wastewater departments.

• Maintain working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and current industry standards.
• Document and maintain records of work performed including work orders, daily logs, schematics, and parts lists; observe, evaluate, assist, and document work performed by outside service repair centers; evaluate service requests and provide feedback as appropriate.
• Maintain electric systems for buildings and grounds.
• Maintain signal lighting on water pressure tanks and reservoirs.
• Work with contractors and vendors to ensure functionality.
• Develop and install new electrical control panels.

JOB SUMMARY

The incumbent, under the supervision of the SCADA and Water Pump Station Maintenance Supervisor, is responsible for overseeing and proper utilization of all maintenance machinist/mechanics in carrying out tasks necessary for the efficient repair and maintenance of all water treatment plants, pump station, and storage equipment.The position is ensures the Utility Department’s water mechanical systems stay in compliance with requirements of regulatory agencies in coordination with the Utility Department comprehensive strategic management plan.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Note: All City of Fort Smith positions require the employee to provide good customer service to both internal and external customers, maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees, and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive. Must show cooperation and respect to fellow employees and supervisors at all times. All other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor and/or department director.

• Install, operate, test, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair all electrical equipment and switchgear used in the water and wastewater stationary equipment departments.
• Provide preventive maintenance of equipment, motors, controls, and wiring.
• Maintain working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and current industry standards.
• Document and maintain records of work performed including the completion of work orders, daily logs, electrical schematics, and parts lists; observe, evaluate, assist, and document work performed by outside service repair centers; evaluate service requests and provide feedback as appropriate; and ensure operational requirements are met at all times.
• Maintain electric systems for buildings and grounds.
• Maintain signal lighting on water pressure tanks and reservoirs.
• Work with contractors and vendors to ensure functionality.
• Develop and install new electrical control panels.
• Perform related work as required or assigned.
• Required to maintain residence within 40 minutes driving time to City Maintenance Center to limit response time for calls to service.
• Participates in classes and/or attend conferences that are deemed necessary by the SCADA and Water Pump Station Maintenance Supervisor and/or Easement, Building & Station Maintenance Program manager.
• Follows City, Utility Department, and Easement, Building & Station Maintenance Program safety practices and guidelines at all times, including wearing proper personal protective/safety equipment.
• Regular attendance and timeliness is required.
• Working holidays, shifts and weekends is required.
• Working standby and being called in to work afterhours or on weekends is required.
• Working overtime may be required.

• Three (3) years’ experience as Industrial Electrician.
• Aerial Lift/Man Lift License
• Arkansas Department of Health Grade IV Water Distribution License
• Arkansas Department of Health Grade I to Grade IV Water Treatment License
• Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality Class II to Class IV Wastewater License;

• Ability to use math to compute needed statistics for compliance determination.
• Ability to understand in written, oral, or diagram form complex variables and analyze them and explain results to others.
• The incumbent should possess knowledge of the use of tools and equipment in the department.
• The employee should also have knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.
• Knowledge in the use of computers using Windows based word-processing, spreadsheet, and database application software.

POSITION DESIGNATIONS

This position is designated as essential during inclement weather events. City services will be maintained during inclement weather, such as heavy snow or ice storms and all essential employees are expected to report to work due to the critical functions of the position. This position is not able to work remotely.

This position does have the potential to drive as part of their regular job duties.
