Job description

Troubleshoots and maintains all electrical, SCADA, and control equipment for Water Purification & Production and all associated appurtenances. This includes all security, process control, instrumentation, industrial radio frequency (RF) communications and data monitoring aspects for the Utilities Water Treatment Systems.

Budgetary Responsibilities

• Troubleshoots and repairs electrical service, motor control, and lighting circuits at any facility within the Utilities Department.
• Troubleshoots, repairs and programs SCADA equipment at any facility within the Utilities Department.
• Installation, maintenance, overhaul, repair, and testing of power generation and distribution equipment and rotating equipment.
• Evaluates and recommends changes to the SCADA master plan. Researches, analyzes and recommends system design criteria, including design of interfaces for existing and new equipment and software.
• Instructs users of SCADA and motor control circuits at any facility within the Utilities Department.
• Calculates electrical loads for equipment and installs conduit and wiring according to current codes.
• Keeps abreast of changes in the Electrical Code and Regulations and makes recommendations on their impact to the City.
• Maintains inventory of supplies used and replaces as needed.
• Performs Operations & Maintenance duties as assigned
• Occasional shift work required along with on-call duties as well
• Performs any other duties as required.

Education/Training

High school diploma or GED Required, College courses or Electrical Trade school preferred

Experience

experience in the operation, repair, and maintenance of machinery, pumps, or mechanical equipment. Experience with computers is desirable.

License or Certificate

Possession of, or ability to obtain and acquire, Class “D” Water Operations certification from TCEQ within 1 years of employment is required. Ability to obtain and acquire, Class “C” Surface water certification from TCEQ within 3 years of employment is required. Possession of a valid TX Class C driver’s license.

Environment

Water treatment plant. Exposure to noise of plant machinery and other equipment; mechanical and electrical hazards of operating equipment; fumes and odors of chemicals and gases; toxic substances such as chemicals, cleaners, solvents, and gases; all types of weather and temperature conditions. Work and/or walk for long periods of time on various types of surfaces including slippery or uneven surfaces and rough terrain. Subject to 24-hour emergency callbacks and requires working varying hours, overtime, weekends, and holidays. Work environment is informal, team-oriented, having both routine and variable tasks with variable pace and pressure. Work is performed in both indoors in plant area and outdoors in field and collateral facilities.

Physical

Primary functions require sufficient physical ability to work in a plant and field setting and operate assigned equipment. CONTINUOUS walking, balancing, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, lifting of objects weighing up to 50 lbs. from below waist level to above shoulder level and transporting for distances up to 100 yards, ability to climb 150ft towers and work effectively at that height, fine finger dexterity to operate tools and controls, firm grasp to lift and carry objects; FREQUENT sitting, standing, reaching, climbing, and twisting at waist.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

Ability to read operator's manuals, blue prints and schematics in order to maintain electrical, SCADA and control equipment throughout the Utilities Department in good working order. Working knowledge of industrial electrical systems ranging from 24VDC to 600 VAC. Skill in the operation of electrical and mechanical hand and power tools. Employee must perform mathematical calculations in order to determine electrical needs. Skill in writing to record results and track work. Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety practices. Will be on-call night and weekends.

Minimum Education, Experience and Certification

High school diploma or equivalent required plus two years of experience. Valid Texas driver's license required. Must also Obtain a valid state of Texas class "C" or above wastewater license.
