Job description

Purpose of the Position

Identify electrical needs for all buildings and grounds located within the school system.

Reports To

Coordinator of Maintenance.

Essential Job Functions
  • Strategic Goal Area I: Student Achievement
    • Maintain a safe and secure environment in order to support student learning.

    • Work cooperatively with supervision, principals, head custodians, and maintenance employees.
    • Exhibit department professionalism, employee motivation, and teamwork.
  • Strategic Goal Area III: Efficient and Effective Operational Processes
    • Correctly identify service needs as to electrical system size, voltage, phases, etc.
    • Install, repair, and perform electrical upgrades at existing facilities and for portable classrooms.
    • Upgrade and renovate electrical services according to blueprints, schematics, and diagrams.
    • Prepare and install underground wire.
  • Strategic Goal Area IV: Continuous System and School Improvement
    • Attend job-related training classes and workshops.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Maintenance.
Other Expectations
  • Adhere to the Code of Ethics for Educators in Georgia.
  • Demonstrate prompt and regular attendance/timeliness.
  • Complete assignments and requirements on time and in compliance with directions.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and appropriate records and file reports promptly.
Job Standards (Minimum qualifications needed to perform essential job functions)
  • A minimum of four years in-field experience or a technical degree in electrical repair and construction plus two years of infield experience.
  • Familiar with the National Electrical Code and Southern Building Codes.
  • Independent work ethic.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Capable of climbing an extension ladder carrying a maximum of 50 pounds.
  • Alternate qualifications may be considered as appropriate and acceptable by the board.
FLSA Status

Non-Exempt.

Job Location

All facilities in the school system.

Equipment
  • Basic hand tools; power tools; phase, light and multi-meters; and electrical personnel lift.
Critical Skills / Expertise
  • Ability to read electrical schematic, blueprints, diagrams and electrical manuals for specific electrical jobs.
  • Ability to use proper meters to complete tasks correctly.
  • Working conditions for maintenance employees: Must be able to climb, bend, stoop, reach, walk, stand for long periods, work in confined spaces periodically, push, pull, or lift at least 50 pounds, read various forms of written documents and recognize different signs and symbols related to general maintenance.
Non-Essential Functions
  • Maintain and care for a well-organized and clean vehicle.
  • Maintain and care for tools and equipment.
  • Calculate job cost and make material work list.
  • Maintain warehouse area and basic inventory of electrical supplies.
  • Operate computer work order system.
