Job summary

BMCHS is seeking an experienced hospital electrician to perform installation, testing, inspection, maintenance and repair of electrical distribution systems across hospital buildings and grounds in the Boston area.

Responsibilities include coordinating with the Lead electrician, estimating materials, maintaining nurse call and alarm systems, repairing motors and devices, and installing wiring from diagrams, while upholding safety and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or GED required.
• Trade school or apprenticeship; 3 years experience in commercial and industrial settings.
• Massachusetts Journeyman’s Electrical License and Massachusetts Drivers license must be held.

• Maintain hospital nurse call system, paging, mechanical alarm and medical gas alarm systems.

Job description

Perform installation, testing inspection, prevention maintenance and repair duties involving electric light and power distribution circuits, controls and appliances throughout the hospital buildings and grounds. Accountable for maintaining the hospital’s electrical distribution systems according to the National, State and local electrical codes and hospital regulatory agencies. Maintains a safe electrical environment for hospital staff patients and visitors.

• Receive work orders and coordinates work to fit schedule assigned by Lead electrician
• Estimate time and materials required on work order
• Maintain hospital nurse call system, paging, mechanical alarm and medical gas alarm systems
• Repair electric motors controllers and other auxiliary electrical devices.
• Makes emergency repairs to medical equipment
• Install new wiring and elec. Machinery working from prints and diagrams to determine layout location and specifications of items to be installed.
• Bend and run conduit
• Install concealed wiring
• Isolate and repair defective circuits as required
• Dismantle electrical machinery and break connections, replace defective parts and reassemble and test for proper operation
• Check and repair lighting systems
• Maintain and repair central clock system
• Take periodic inventory of stock and requisition supplies as needed to maintain adequate supply
• Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition following prescribed safety regulations
• Maintains CATV cabling to determine where problems or damage may have occurred.
• Assists the fire alarm testing company as needed to maintain hospital fire alarm system.
• Assists other trades as required by overload or emergency situation
• Assist with snow removal as necessary.
• Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
• Performs other duties as assigned
