Core Purpose:
This position involves skilled repair and modification of electronic and electro-mechanical systems in transit light and heavy rail vehicles. Technicians work independently according to industry standards, company procedures, and specifications. They may also provide on-site troubleshooting and adjustments for revenue vehicles. The role focuses on testing, troubleshooting, and repairing systems on transit vehicles under general supervision.
Main Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Test and adjust electronic, electrical, and mechanical systems on transit vehicles, including propulsion, train control, pneumatic systems, brakes, air conditioning, annunciation, communications, door control, lighting, and auxiliary power.
- Troubleshoot and verify performance of these systems, replacing components as needed to meet manufacturer specifications.
- Accurately record findings in Test Reports and vehicle history logs.
- Modify electronic and electro-mechanical systems as directed by engineering and supervisory staff.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams on modifications.
- Use diagnostic and measurement tools; fabricate testing equipment if necessary.
- Disassemble and repair electronic and electro-mechanical systems.
- Verify performance of new or modified systems.
- Work with transit vehicle mechanics to troubleshoot and perform primary repairs.
- Interpret diagrams, schematics, manuals, and work orders.
- Test and inspect completed work for compliance with specifications.
- Document work performed, parts used, and follow safety procedures.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years experience, preferably in light rail or aviation environments.
- Experience with low/high voltage, relay logic, and test equipment.
- Own and maintain basic hand tools.
- Experience with precision measurement tools.
- Knowledge of electrical crimping and mechanical torque techniques.
- Commitment to safety and teamwork.
- Fluent in English; high school diploma or equivalent; technical education preferred.
- Ability to read drawings, schematics, and work orders.
- Strong problem-solving skills, ability to prioritize under pressure, and good interpersonal skills.
- Computer skills in MS Word and Excel; ability to lift 30-50 lbs.
