Electrical Technician Instructor – Full Time & Adjunct/Part Time Opportunities available.

Summary

The Electrical Technician Instructor is entrusted with imparting the knowledge and skills each student needs to be successful by providing quality delivery of assigned courses while ensuring that all students achieve competency in the course objectives. Instructors evaluate and resolve student questions, issues and problems, and ensure appropriate action is taken to the satisfaction of the student, the college, and/or regulatory agencies in compliance with policy, procedures, and legal requirements. Instructors are to be motivating, fair and impartial, creative, dedicated, and professional.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent; additional education may be required by some programs.
  • Michigan Master or Electrical Journeyman License; a bachelor’s or associate degree, diploma, or certificate in the field taught from a post‑secondary institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. DOE; or a minimum of one year of post‑secondary education from a U.S. DOE‑recognized institution with teaching or field experience in the course(s) taught.
  • For EL100, EL105, or EL110: at least one year of college in an electrical science program and one year of documented experience in the subject taught.
  • Prior teaching experience preferred.
Knowledge – Skills – Abilities

Excellent communication (written and oral) and analytical skills; ability to work independently as well as within a team; ability to maintain employer relationships with at least annual contacts, including site visits or phone conversations; ability to exercise confidentiality ensuring all educational activity is conducted legally and ethically.

Working / Physical Demands

The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit for extended periods, and have sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate a phone, computer keyboard, and other office equipment. The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job and include seeing, talking, and hearing regularly.

Essential Functions
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver quality classroom instruction in lecture, clinical, and/or laboratory format based on the approved course outline, selecting and utilizing a variety of approved course materials and teaching methods that address all learning modalities to meet individual student needs.
  • Assess student learning using appropriate methods and demonstrate effectiveness with strong outcomes in student retention, success, and attendance, as measured by the Faculty Development Program.
  • Conduct engaging classroom lectures and/or labs, motivate students by demonstrating sensitivity for concerns and actively involving students in discussions and activities.
  • Advise students on attendance, grades, and issues to ensure successful completion of their course.
  • Contact absentee students by text, email, and/or phone as needed to improve retention.
  • Manage classroom environment through compliance with campus policies including but not limited to classroom management, attendance, punctuality, and professionalism.
  • Ensure instructor preparedness before class by listing on the whiteboard: instructor name and contact information, date, class name, day’s objectives, and next session objectives.
  • Monitor and prepare supplies and equipment; inform appropriate campus personnel when issues arise.
  • Participate in faculty, staff, committee, and in‑service meetings.
  • Support other departments such as Financial Aid, Admissions, and Career Services.
  • Demonstrate professional growth through membership in educational associations, continued education, related business experience, research, and awareness of current practices and standards.
  • Attend seminars, conventions, field visits, vendor shows, equipment exhibits, and other enrichment opportunities.
  • Demonstrate continuous improvement within the Faculty Development Program or other identified criteria.
