Electrical Technician – Mission Critical / Data Centers

Position Overview
PTS Advance is seeking Electrical Technicians to support a leading electrical contractor on mission-critical and data center projects throughout the Western United States.
This is a contract-to-hire opportunity offering long-term growth and development for candidates interested in expanding their careers within electrical power systems and mission-critical infrastructure.
We are open to candidates across multiple experience levels, from developing technicians with a strong electrical foundation to experienced specialists with advanced testing and commissioning capabilities.
Electrical Technicians will support the installation, testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance of low- and medium-voltage electrical power distribution and control systems. Responsibilities will vary based on experience level.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the installation, testing, checkout, troubleshooting, start-up, and commissioning of electrical systems and equipment.
- Test and maintain switchgear, switchboards, circuit breakers, panelboards, transformers, motor controls, and related power distribution equipment.
- Work with low- and medium-voltage electrical systems supporting mission-critical and data center facilities.
- Perform or assist with testing of MV/LV circuit breakers, switchgear, transformers, and other electrical equipment.
- Troubleshoot electrical control circuits and assist with equipment condition assessments.
- Support electrical testing activities including AC/DC high-potential testing, transformer turns ratio testing, transformer power factor testing, and other power system testing based on experience.
- Review and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, blueprints, bills of material, and technical documentation.
- Support equipment start-up, checkout, commissioning, and system validation in the field.
- Assist with power monitoring, metering, power quality, and Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS).
- Support communication devices, industrial networks, HMI/PLC systems, and protective relay testing and configuration as applicable to experience level.
- Maintain accurate testing, service, and project documentation.
- Work directly with field teams, project leadership, and customers to identify and resolve technical issues.
- Follow all electrical, jobsite, and client-specific safety requirements.
- Participate in project walk-throughs and closeout activities.
- Experienced technicians may provide technical guidance, customer training, and mentorship to junior team members.
- Travel to project locations and respond to field assignments as required.
Qualifications
We are seeking candidates with 2+ years of electrical, power systems, electrical testing, commissioning, or related field experience. Level and compensation will be determined by overall technical experience and capabilities.
Relevant experience may include:
- Low- and/or medium-voltage power distribution systems.
- Switchgear, switchboards, transformers, circuit breakers, motor controls, or protective relays.
- Electrical testing equipment and power system testing procedures.
- Troubleshooting electrical control circuits.
- Reading electrical drawings, schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation.
- Power monitoring, metering, power quality, or EPMS.
- HMI, PLC, industrial communications, or control systems.
- Data centers, mission-critical facilities, industrial environments, commercial electrical construction, utilities, power generation, or similar environments.
Additional Requirements
- Working knowledge of electrical safety practices.
- Ability to work safely around electrical equipment and understand applicable arc-flash and shock hazards based on training and experience.
- Ability to lift and move tools and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Basic computer and Microsoft Office proficiency.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability and willingness to work on-site at project locations.
- Willingness to travel throughout the Western U.S. strongly preferred.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
The following are preferred but not required for all levels:
- Mission-critical or data center experience.
- Electrical testing and commissioning experience.
- Experience with Schneider Electric, Eaton, Siemens, or similar power distribution equipment.
- Experience working with electrical systems up to 13.8kV.
- Knowledge of ANSI, NEC, NFPA, IEEE, and/or NETA standards.
- Protective relay testing and configuration experience.
- HMI, PLC, EPMS, or industrial communications experience.
- Associate degree, electrical trade training, military technical training, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- U.S. Army Prime Power or U.S. Navy Nuclear experience.
- AVO, NETA, NICET, or thermography certifications.
$30–$60/hour, depending on experience, certifications, technical capabilities, and assignment requirements.
