Job summary

Brunel in Bagdad, Arizona seeks a hands-on Electrical Technician to support pre-commissioning, commissioning, energization, and startup activities for a major project. You will verify installations, perform field testing, and help ensure safety and readiness for operation on MV/LV systems.

The role covers switchgear, MCCs, transformers, UPS, motors, and related control circuits, with heavy field emphasis and meticulous documentation.

Qualifications

• Technical diploma or certificate in electrical engineering, electrical technology, or a related discipline; equivalent relevant field experience may be considered.
• Approximately three to eight years of experience in electrical installation, testing, maintenance, or commissioning.
• Experience supporting EPC or major industrial projects within mining, oil and gas, power generation, smelting, or similar heavy-industry environments.
• Hands-on experience with electrical systems, test equipment, cable testing, terminations, motors, switchgear, MCCs, transformers, and associated field devices.
• An understanding of electrical drawings, isolation procedures, energization controls, and safe electrical work practices.

Responsibilities

• Verify the installation of MV/LV cables and cable trays, switchgear, MCCs, distribution boards, transformers, UPS systems, motors, and field electrical devices.
• Confirm installations comply with single-line diagrams, wiring and termination drawings, cable schedules, layouts, project specifications, and approved standards.
• Inspect cable terminations, glands, equipment labeling, earthing/grounding, panel condition, cleanliness, and general installation quality.
• Verify system readiness before energization and report defects, incomplete work, or unsafe conditions to the Electrical Lead.
• Perform cable identification, continuity, polarity, insulation-resistance, and earth-resistance checks.
• Complete functional testing of control circuits and support testing of switchgear, MCCs, transformers, and protection systems.
• Support motor rotation checks, no-load testing, and commissioning of motors and drives.
• Record test results accurately, identify anomalies, and assist with troubleshooting and corrective actions.
• Assist with electrical system energization under the direction of the Electrical Lead or responsible engineer.
• Follow approved switching procedures, isolation plans, permits, and pre-energization safety checks.
• Monitor electrical systems and equipment during energization, startup, and early operation and promptly report abnormalities.
• Support commissioning of lighting, small-power systems, UPS systems, battery banks, motors, drives, and related equipment.
• Troubleshoot electrical faults and equipment issues and help confirm reliable operation following energization.
• Complete and maintain test sheets, commissioning checklists, cable-test reports, protection relay settings, and energization records.
• Report daily progress, defects, constraints, and punch-list items to the Electrical Lead.
• Identify electrical punch-list items and support their closure before system energization and handover.
• Assist with red-line drawings, as-built documentation, system dossiers, and preparation for handover to operations.

Job description

Our client is seeking a hands-on Electrical Technician to support pre-commissioning, commissioning, energization, and startup activities for a major project in Bagdad, Arizona. Reporting to the Electrical Lead, this position will verify installations, perform field testing, support equipment commissioning, and help ensure electrical systems are safe and ready for operation.

The role covers medium- and low-voltage cabling, switchgear, motor control centers, transformers, UPS systems, motors, field devices, lighting, small power, and associated protection and control circuits. This is a field-focused opportunity for a technician who works safely, follows procedures closely, and produces accurate commissioning records.

Key Responsibilities

Installation Verification and Readiness

• Verify the installation of MV/LV cables and cable trays, switchgear, MCCs, distribution boards, transformers, UPS systems, motors, and field electrical devices.

• Identify hazards, stop unsafe work when required, and report unsafe acts or conditions promptly.
• Participate actively in toolbox talks, risk assessments, pre-task planning, and safety meetings.

What We Offer

• This position offers a flat daily rate for days worked only. 5 day work week, 10-hour workdays. All full-time Brunel contractors are eligible for benefits. Your medical, dental and vision will begin on your first day of employment. 401K matching - 50% match, up to 3%.
• Non-local candidates to Bagdad, Arizona will be on a 4x1 rotation and provided single-status, fully furnished accommodations, airfare to/from home, rental car, fuel reimbursement, plus a $750/month stipend for food. Rotation will be 4 weeks on, 1 week off (not working).
