Job summary

Black & Veatch is seeking an Electrical Project Engineer for Substation work in Houston, TX. You’ll lead and coordinate substation design efforts, mentor junior staff, and deliver protected relay and power systems within EPC projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from a recognized program.
• Minimum of 5 years related work experience.
• Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding including background checks.

Responsibilities

• Function as Technical Specialist or Project Lead on substation projects.
• Support substation projects up to 765kV in EPC and detailed design.
• Develop protection/controls deliverables and relay panel wiring.
• Develop yard layout, grounding, and AC/DC power systems in HV substation designs.
• Perform or oversee quality reviews of design packages.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
• Prepare equipment specs and BOMs for procurement/construction.
• Coordinate activities with clients, vendors, and stakeholders.
• Present proposals and designs; travel to sites as needed.
• Manage design budgets and schedules; support business development.
