Job summary

Southern Company Services is seeking a Substation Physical Designer in Birmingham, AL to create 2D drawings and 3D models for transmission and distribution substations. The role supports engineering standards, material specs, construction activities, project schedules, safety, quality, and cost objectives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology is required.
• Associate degree with at least five years of related experience acceptable.
• High school diploma with at least eight years of significant related industry experience acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Create and modify 2D drawings and 3D models for electrical substations.
• Develop foundation, grounding, conduit, switchgear, switch house, electrical bus, and general arrangement layouts.
• Produce drawings using AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, Autodesk Map 3D/P4A, or similar software.
• Develop physical substation designs from single-line and three-line diagrams.
• Prepare material specifications and order stock, non-stock, and shop-fabricated materials.
• Assemble and transmit design drawing packages and supporting documentation.
