Job summary

Southern Company Services Technical Shared Services – Substation Engineering is seeking Engineers/Designers for multiple Substation Physical Design roles in Birmingham, AL. Positions offer hybrid work with in-office and field components and potential relocation assistance.

Openings are in the Substation Physical Design group; candidates with relevant degrees or experience will be considered for exempt level 3-6 based on background and education. Some travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering (Engineer).
• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology (Designer).
• Associate Degree with minimum 3 years relevant industry experience (Designer).
• No Degree with minimum 5 years relevant industry experience (Designer).

Responsibilities

• Prepare high quality design packages needed to construct substations using CAD-based tools based on Southern Company design standards.
• Design the physical aspects of substations including Foundation, Grounding, Conduit, Control House, Section Drawings, Electrical Bus Design and related drawings; specify and provide approval drawings for non-stock materials; manage stock and shop materials; transmit packages to SCST Vault.
• Maintain Safety as top priority and lead by example.
• Coordinate with other design disciplines on Substation Physical Design projects.
• Provide QA reviews, training, and developmental feedback to internal designers/engineers.
