Job summary

nVent in Houston, TX seeks an Electrical Engineer to design custom electrical enclosure solutions for data centers and industrial applications. You will review customer specs and apply codes to ensure safe, compliant designs.

You will collaborate with sales, plant engineers, and design teams to translate concepts into manufacturable, cost-efficient solutions while balancing speed and quality in quotes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; relevant experience considered.
• Experience designing electrical systems (one-line diagrams, wiring, sizing) in commercial/industrial settings.
• Ability to interpret customer specs, codes, and standards (NEC or equivalent) and apply to designs.
• Fast-paced, ambiguous environment with frequently customized solutions.
• Strong communication skills, written and verbal, with sales, manufacturing and customers.
• Experience reviewing technical designs or supporting others on specs, code compliance, and standards.
• Experience with AutoCAD required; experience with Oracle preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop custom electrical enclosure solutions for data centers, energy storage and emerging tech.
• Partner with BDMs and Sales to tackle technical challenges and win strategic deals.
• Own the technical side of quoting: review specs, create designs, meet performance and code needs.
• Design electrical and mechanical systems: one-line diagrams, interconnects, wiring and equipment sizing.
• Collaborate with sales, plant engineers, design teams and manufacturing to translate concepts into manufacturable solutions.
• Balance speed, accuracy and cost to deliver quotes on time while remaining technically sound.
• Review and validate designs for code compliance and alignment with customer specs.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of quoting, design and sales support processes.
