COMPA Industries is searching for qualified candidates for an Electrical Safety Officer position at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) in Los Alamos, NM.

Work Schedule: Full-time

Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance

Candidates must meet the following requirements to be considered:

• Must have advanced, demonstrated knowledge of electrical safety standards, including NFPA 70E, IEEE, and OSHA.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level security clearance.
• Must be able to successfully complete Radiological Worker II training.

Impact

The Electrical Safety Officer serves as LANL’s primary authority on electrical safety, ensuring the effective implementation and continuous improvement of the Electrical Safety Program. This role directly supports mission-critical construction and operational activities by reducing electrical hazards, ensuring regulatory compliance, and protecting workers, facilities, and national security assets.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Serve as the primary contact for electrical safety and administer the LANL Electrical Safety Program.
• Provide electrical safety expertise and support to construction projects, working closely with project managers, craft personnel, work planners, and field professionals.
• Act as a technical resource for LANL employees and management on electrical safety issues and concerns.
• Conduct electrical incident investigations, perform root cause analyses, and develop corrective actions.
• Perform workplace inspections to identify and assess electrical hazards across diverse environments.
• Lead reviews of Integrated Work Documents (IWDs) and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
• Contribute to the development and improvement of electrical safety codes, standards, specifications, and design criteria.
• Provide advanced technical support to engineers and scientists addressing complex electrical safety challenges.
• Participate in evaluations of controlled items and services to ensure compliance with electrical safety requirements.
• Perform calculations to determine electrical severity scores for incidents.
• Develop and maintain written electrical safety policies, procedures, and standards.

Minimum Qualifications

• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.
• Advanced knowledge of electrical safety standards, including NFPA, IEEE, and OSHA, with particular emphasis on NFPA 70E.
• Experience with electrical engineering or electrical technology applications, including low-voltage AC and DC systems.
• Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to present complex technical information effectively.
• Proficiency with personal computer systems and software, including Microsoft Office.
• Ability to pass Radiological Worker II training.

Education and Experience Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and 7 years of relevant field experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
