Job summary

Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking an Electrical Safety Officer to provide technical leadership for the Electrical Safety Program. The role works with project managers, engineers, craft personnel, work planners, and field professionals to ensure safe electrical practices are followed.

Responsibilities include inspections, incident investigations, safety documentation review, and assisting with developing and implementing safety policies, procedures, and standards to uphold regulatory

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with 7+ years of field experience.
• Advanced knowledge of electrical safety standards, regulations (NFPA, IEEE, OSHA).
• Strong knowledge of NFPA 70E and electrical safe work practices.
• Experience applying electrical engineering principles to low-voltage systems.
• Experience conducting safety investigations and inspections.
• Ability to review safety documentation and policies.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong leadership and collaboration abilities.
• Proficiency with common software and data systems.
• Ability to obtain DOE Q-level clearance.
• Ability to complete RW-II training.

The Electrical Safety Officer at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) provides technical expertise and support for the Electrical Safety Program. This position serves as a primary resource for electrical safety-related concerns and works closely with project managers, engineers, craft personnel, work planners, and field professionals to ensure electrical safe work practices are effectively implemented.

The Electrical Safety Officer will support construction and operational activities, conduct workplace inspections and incident investigations, review electrical safety documentation, and assist with the development and implementation of electrical safety policies, procedures, codes, standards, and specifications.

This position requires strong technical knowledge of electrical engineering and electrical safety practices, along with excellent communication, organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Safety, or a related field, with at least seven (7) years of relevant field experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


• Advanced knowledge of electrical safety standards, regulations, and industry practices, including NFPA, IEEE, and OSHA requirements.


• Strong working knowledge of NFPA 70E and electrical safe work practices.


• Experience applying electrical engineering or electrical technology principles to a variety of systems and applications, including low-voltage AC and DC systems.


• Demonstrated experience identifying electrical hazards and implementing appropriate controls and corrective actions.


• Experience conducting or supporting incident investigations, workplace inspections, and safety assessments.


• Strong technical problem-solving and analytical skills.


• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex technical information clearly to a variety of audiences.


• Strong organizational, collaboration, and leadership skills.


• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other common computer systems and software.


• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level security clearance.


• Ability to successfully complete Radiological Worker II (RW-II) training.
