Job summary

Strategic Management Solutions, LLC (SMSI) seeks an experienced Electrical Safety Officer to support the LANL Electrical Safety Program onsite in Los Alamos, NM. This role provides electrical safety expertise for construction and field operations, coordinating with project managers, craft personnel, and work planners.

The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge, excellent communication and leadership skills, and the ability to develop safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q level security clearance.
• Advanced knowledge of NFPA, IEEE, and OSHA standards, especially NFPA 70E.
• Experience with electrical engineering/technology in various applications (low voltage AC/DC).
• Strong communication and organizational skills for presenting complex technical information.
• Ability to pass Radiological Worker II training.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary contact on electrical safety and administer the LANL Electrical Safety Program.
• Advise LANL employees and managers on electrical safety concerns.
• Conduct incident investigations and determine root causes with corrective actions.
• Perform workplace condition inspections to identify electrical hazards.
• Lead reviews of IWD and LOTO procedures.
• Contribute to codes, standards, and specifications for electrical safety.

Job Summary

SMSI is seeking an experienced Electrical Safety Officer to support the Electrical Safety Program at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). This role provides electrical safety expertise and oversight for construction and field operations, working closely with project managers, craft personnel, work planners, and other professionals. Responsibilities include supporting electrical safe work practices, conducting safety assessments and incident investigations, and ensuring compliance with applicable safety standards. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge, communication, leadership, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. This role will be 100% onsite in Los Alamos, New Mexico.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary contact on electrical safety and administer the LANL Electrical Safety Program.
• Act as a resource for LANL employees and managers regarding electrical safety concerns.
• Conduct incident investigations and determine root causes, developing corrective actions as necessary.
• Perform workplace condition inspections to identify electrical hazards in various environments.
• Lead reviews of Integrated Work Documents (IWD) and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
• Contribute to the development of codes, standards, and specifications for electrical equipment safety.
• Provide advanced support to engineers/scientists in solving complex technical problems.
• Participate in the evaluation of controlled items and services for compliance with electrical safety requirements.
• Perform calculations to determine electrical severity scores for incidents.
• Develop written electrical safety policies, procedures, and design standards.

Required Skills/Abilities

• Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Q level security clearance.
• Advanced knowledge of electrical safety standards including NFPA, IEEE, and OSHA, particularly NFPA 70E.
• Experience with electrical engineering/technology in various applications such as low voltage AC and DC systems.
• Significant experience with personal computer systems and software, including Microsoft Office.
• Demonstrated expert communication and organizational skills for presenting complex technical information.
• Ability to pass Radiological Worker II training.

Desired Skills

• Previous experience working at LANL and/or nuclear facilities is preferred but not required.
• An active or recently inactive DOE Clearance.
• Demonstrated exceptional communication and organizational skills by effectively presenting complex technical information to diverse audiences.
• The candidate must be US Citizen.
• The candidate must have an active DOE Q clearance.
• The candidate must have an active Real ID driver’s license for badging and onboarding.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree and 7 years of relevant field experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
