Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking an Electrical Safety Officer to oversee the Electrical Safety Program, provide expertise, and be the primary contact for electrical safety concerns on construction projects. Qualifications

  • BS and 7 years of field experience or equivalent.
  • U.S. DOE Q level security clearance eligibility.
  • Advanced knowledge of NFPA, IEEE, OSHA, esp. NFPA 70E.
  • Experience with low voltage AC/DC electrical systems.
  • Strong PC/software experience including Microsoft Office.
  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to pass Radiological Worker II training.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary contact on electrical safety and administer the LANL Electrical Safety Program.
  • Act as a resource for LANL employees and managers on electrical safety.
  • Conduct incident investigations and determine root causes with corrective actions.
  • Perform workplace condition inspections to identify electrical hazards.
  • Lead reviews of IWD and LOTO procedures.
  • Contribute to development of codes, standards, and design safety specs.
  • Provide advanced support to engineers/scientists in solving complex issues.
  • Evaluate controlled items/services for electrical safety compliance.
  • Perform calculations to determine electrical severity scores for incidents.
  • Develop written electrical safety policies and procedures.

Looking for someone who can perform energy calculations, system engineer or distribution engineer, evaluation with SKM models, master electrician or code interpreter, identify hazards with low voltage (up to 1000volts), fibre optics does not really meet the need.

Electrical background, ability to inspect and assess, fieldwork experience; field electrical rate; code compliance, NFDA 70, 70E; commercial/light industrial knowledge; inside wireman great; commercial electrician great

The Electrical Safety Officer at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is responsible for overseeing the Electrical Safety Program, providing expertise in electrical safety, and serving as the primary contact for electrical safety-related concerns. This role involves providing electrical safety support to construction projects, working directly with project managers, craft, work planners, and field professionals to ensure effective implementation of electrical safe work practices, conducting incident investigations, leading safety assessments, and collaborating with various teams to ensure compliance with safety standards. The position requires advanced knowledge in electrical engineering and safety protocols, and candidates must have excellent communication, collaboration, leadership, and technical problem-solving skills.

  • Participate in the evaluation of controlled items and services for compliance with electrical safety requirements.
  • Perform calculations to determine electrical severity scores for incidents.
  • Develop written electrical safety policies, procedures, and design standards.
Requirements
  • BS and 7 years of field experience (or equivalent combination of education and/or experience).
  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Q level security clearance.
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical safety standards including NFPA, IEEE, and OSHA, particularly NFPA 70E.
  • Experience with electrical engineering/technology in various applications such as low voltage AC and DC systems.
  • Significant experience with personal computer systems and software, including Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated expert communication and organizational skills for presenting complex technical information.
  • Ability to pass Radiological Worker II training.
