The engineer will play a key role in ensuring that all electrical systems are designed, commissioned, and energized safely in accordance with company procedures, OSHA regulations, and NFPA 70E standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify upstream isolation points, protective devices, and control points required for safe LOTO operations.
  • Collaborate with construction, commissioning, and safety teams to ensure all energization and de-energization activities follow approved procedures.
  • Support and enforce NFPA 70E, OSHA 1910/1926 Subpart S, and company-specific electrical safety standards.
  • Participate in hazard analysis, risk assessments, and electrical incident investigations as required.
  • Maintain a database of LOTO procedures and permits, ensuring version control and traceability.
Commissioning & Engineering Support
  • Assist in commissioning planning and execution, focusing on electrical safety and system readiness.
  • Coordinate with commissioning teams to verify that electrical systems are properly isolated, tested, and re-energized per established protocols.
  • Support field engineers and technicians in troubleshooting and validating system performance.
  • Provide engineering review for temporary power, testing setups, and energization sequences.
Program & Documentation Management
  • Write and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for electrical safety, testing, and commissioning.
  • Support the Energy Marshal in conducting training sessions and toolbox talks on LOTO, electrical hazards, and energization processes.
  • Manage documentation for LOTO permits, energization plans, and pre-task hazard analyses (PTHA).
  • Track compliance metrics and prepare reports on program performance and incident trends.
Collaboration & Oversight
  • Work under the direction of the Energy Marshal and Commissioning Manager to ensure alignment with the overall project commissioning plan.
  • Coordinate closely with safety, construction, and operations teams to implement safe work practices.
  • Participate in field walkdowns to verify installation quality, labeling, and readiness for testing.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent discipline required.
  • 2+ years of experience required in electrical engineering, commissioning, or electrical safety programs preferred.
  • Experience in data center, industrial, or large-scale construction environments is highly desirable.
Technical Competencies
  • Strong knowledge of NFPA 70E, OSHA 1910.147, NFPA 70 (NEC), and other relevant electrical codes.
  • Familiarity with LOTO program development, energization planning, and electrical one-line diagram interpretation.
  • Proficient in reading and marking up electrical drawings, including power distribution and control schematics.
  • Basic understanding of commissioning processes, testing equipment, and electrical distribution systems up to 15kV.
Soft Skills
