Job summary

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) Newport News Shipbuilding is seeking an inspector to perform required inspections and nondestructive tests on mechanical, electrical, or structural components to ensure quality conformance. Work supports ship construction, overhaul, refueling and repair contracts and reports to a Supervisor, Inspection.

The role requires a High School/GED plus 2 years of additional education or experience, with potential travel and a requirement to obtain security clearance.

Qualifications

• Must have High School/GED and at least 2 years of additional education or experience.
• Must have good communication and be able to read/comprehend electrical ship construction drawings.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections and nondestructive tests (UT, MT, PT, visual, dimensional, load tests) on mechanical, electrical or structural components or systems to ensure conformance with quality requirements.
• Test and inspect to determine acceptance or rejection of work and deciding on measuring equipment; may halt work if needed.
